PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lou Pearson (ranked 24935 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Denver (ranked 9033 p4p, 0 weight class). Denver is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Flames of the Ghost. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alex Denver!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearson lands a leg kick that knocks Denver off balance momentarily.
Denver fails with the takedown.
Denver tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Pearson defends well and Denver ends up having to push Pearson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Denver looks winded!

Denver has closed the distance and engaged Pearson in a clinch.
Pearson fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Denver tries to land a knee to the head but Pearson blocks with his arms.

Pearson gets control of Denver's arms and successfully pulls guard. Pearson will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Pearson looking for subs off his back but Denver has passed one foot through into half guard.
Pearson trying to hold on to Denver's head to control him but Denver postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Denver closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Pearson's guard.
Pearson is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Denver is fighting to break Pearson's control of his arms but Pearson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Denver changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Denver changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pearson tries to avoid it but Denver manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pearson to the ground. Pearson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Pearson shoots in for a takedown but Denver shows good takedown defense.

Pearson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Denver is defending well.

Denver is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Pearson pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Pearson wants to get back to striking at distance but Denver won't allow it.

Pearson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Denver slaps away a takedown attempt from Pearson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Both fighters circling a little - Denver finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Lou Pearson will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Denver has eaten all the pies!

Pearson drags the fight down to the ground.
Denver is breathing heavily.
Pearson has control of Denver's left arm, preventing Denver from doing any damage.

Denver won't allow Pearson to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Denver slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Pearson wants to sweep here but Denver controlling him for the moment.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Denver advances to half guard.
Pearson wants to get back to full guard.
Denver is trying to control. Pearson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Pearson has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Denver escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Denver!
Denver tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Pearson wants to control but Denver postures up.

Denver has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Pearson!
Denver misses with a head shot.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pearson is looking to get to half guard.
Pearson really wants to buck Denver off and get back to his feet.
Pearson is trying desperately to improve position.
Denver controlling the position easily from mount.

Denver throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Denver working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Pearson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Denver looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pearson is one step ahead there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lou Pearson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Denver crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Pearson - the referee stops the clock and Denver gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Pearson. Denver manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

The referee is keeping an eye on Pearson - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Pearson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Denver pinned against the cage. Denver gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Pearson pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Denver back to the cage. Pearson follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Pearson shoots in looking for a takedown. Denver tries to sprawl out of it but Pearson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Denver manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lou Pearson. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Denver on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Denver drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pearson gets the underhooks and prevents it.

As Pearson backs off Denver throws a huge counter combo but Pearson manages to avoid it all.

Denver swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Pearson stuffs the takedown attempt from Denver. Denver gets slowly back to his feet.
Pearson is looking to counter with head kicks.
Pearson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Denver tries to avoid it but Pearson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Denver to the ground. Denver escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Pearson throws a nice inside leg kick.
Pearson misses with a takedown attempt - Denver sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Denver closes the distance and clinches up with Pearson, looking for a takedown. Denver pushes Pearson against the cage but Pearson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Denver circles away from the clinch attempt.
Denver keeps the fight on the outside.
Pearson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Denver swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
A thudding body kick lands there by Pearson!
Pearson uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Denver has time to react.
Good work by Pearson as he checks the leg kick.
Denver shoots for a double leg takedown but Pearson sprawls well. He's pushed Denver's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Pearson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
