PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeremiah Porter (ranked 6991 p4p, 612 weight class) and Angel Childress (ranked 6619 p4p, 595 weight class). Childress comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Eighth of sticky gooey-by MAC MAL kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The key to victory for Jeremiah Porter has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jeremiah Porter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Angel Childress!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Skip Squint and Topper Green.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Childress throws a hook but Porter blocks it.

Childress closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Childress lands in his opponent's guard.
Childress is stalling in the full guard.
Childress wants to control from the top but Porter keeps moving.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Childress pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Porter is keeping the position for now.

Childress has gone for a leg lock! Porter slips out almost immediately though and dives into Childress's guard.

Porter avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Childress is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Porter loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Childress has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Porter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Childress looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Childress working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Porter doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Porter manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Porter with a flurry of punches that miss.
Porter lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Childress is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Porter knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Childress on the ground.

Childress is looking for a kimura but Porter is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Childress to get the leverage.

Childress wants to work for an arm triangle but Porter is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Childress is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Porter defends it well.

Porter has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Childress is working away from the top position though.
Porter tries to kick Childress off but Childress keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Porter is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Childress is looking to stall here but Porter recovers full guard.

Childress postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Porter is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Childress, into his guard.


That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Childress lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Childress stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Porter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Childress passes Porter's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Childress frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Childress jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Porter is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Porter and Childress has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Porter wants to control but Childress postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Angel Childress dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Porter lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Porter misses with a takedown attempt - Childress sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Porter uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Childress.
Childress misses with an uppercut.
Porter fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A big left from Childress misses.
Childress avoids a punch combination nicely.
Childress fails to land with a series of punches.

Childress gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Porter to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Porter has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Porter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Childress swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Childress has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Makoa - Hilo Cheapest Gym. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Porter has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Childress is proving hard to escape from.

Childress is looking to cinch up a triangle. Porter throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Childress's body to avoid the submission. Childress has instead reached around Porter's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Childress arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Angel Childress!
Post fight, Angel Childress stared into the camera and said 'Jeremiah porter I just took your virginity in the middle of the cage and put the division and notice.'.
