Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eric Atkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Davies!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Atkins changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Davies cracks a nice hook into Atkins's ribs.
Davies fails to land with a series of punches.

Atkins manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Davies on his heels. He'll look to pass Davies's guard now, I'm sure.
Atkins sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Davies's guard.
Atkins keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Davies is looking for a sweep. Atkins is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Davies is in trouble now - Atkins has advanced to mount!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Davies slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
It looks like Atkins is going to stand back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Atkins is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Atkins is nestled in close to Davies, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Atkins looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Davies with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Davies wants to get back to full guard.

Atkins is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Atkins is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Atkins is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Davies doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Atkins.

Davies wants to get back to his feet.
Atkins wants to stand up but Davies is controlling the position.
Atkins seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Atkins tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Davies.
Atkins has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Atkins slows the pace down in half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Atkins slaps away a takedown attempt from Davies, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Davies explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Atkins feints and as Davies raises his hands in defense, Atkins changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Atkins slips a nice elbow through Davies's hands, connecting with Davies's forehead.

Eric Atkins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Davies has a hand on Atkins's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Atkins takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Atkins seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Davies for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Davies is bucking up trying to escape but Atkins cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Davies tries to improve his position but instead Atkins has taken his back!
Davies wants to control his opponent's hands but Atkins gets his hands free.

Atkins has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Atkins shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Davies is looking to get back to full guard here but Atkins has managed to pass to side control instead.
Atkins lands a nice forearm strike.
Davies tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Davies wants to control but Atkins postures up.

The referee asks Atkins politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Atkins prefers to stall for the moment though.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Davies gets caught flat footed, as Atkins shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Davies has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Atkins has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Atkins on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Atkins tries to get out of the position.

Davies is fighting to break Atkins's control of his arms but Atkins is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Atkins's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Atkins, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
