Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cedric Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Paulo Perda!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armstrong gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Perda's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Armstrong misses with a head kick.
Perda misses with a body shot.
Perda throws a right hand that Armstrong ducks under and follows up with a left that Armstrong also avoids with ease.
Armstrong fails in his attempt to clinch.

Armstrong has closed the distance and engaged Perda in a clinch.
Perda is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Armstrong slows down the pace here.

Perda breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Perda has taken the fight to the clinch.

Armstrong pulls guard successfully.
Perda scoring with punches to the head and body.
Perda trying to control the position from guard on top but Armstrong is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Armstrong looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Perda puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Perda wants to take a breather but Armstrong is having none of it.

Armstrong is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Perda pulls his head out easily.
Perda is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Armstrong might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Armstrong wants to sweep but Perda has passed to side control!

Perda wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Armstrong, who protects the arm well.
Armstrong knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Perda on the ground.

Perda advances to full mount.
Perda pushing the pace here, looking to move to his opponents back and work for a finish.
Armstrong tries to reverse the position but Perda maintains control.
Armstrong tries to lock up and control but Perda gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Armstrong blocking the ground and pound.
Armstrong regains half guard.

Perda wants to lay and pray for a moment but Armstrong keeps working.
Armstrong tries to get to full guard but Perda has control of the leg.
Perda content to control rather than advance.
Perda passes the guard and advances to mount!

Perda is working for a guillotine from mount but Armstrong frees his head quite easily.
Armstrong is in all sorts of trouble here.
Perda throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Armstrong is looking to get to half guard.

Paulo Perda dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Perda shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Perda lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Perda tries to stand and escape but Armstrong is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Perda is looking to take a break and control but Armstrong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Paulo Perda has got the better of the ground game so far.

Armstrong won't allow Perda to pass to mount.

Perda seems to be looking for submissions.
Armstrong trying to hold on to Perda's head to control him but Perda postures up.
Armstrong is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Perda with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Perda has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Perda is landing with some decent strikes but Armstrong is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Armstrong really wants to buck Perda off and get back to his feet.

Perda is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Perda throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Armstrong tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Perda is in Armstrong's guard.

Perda pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Armstrong is keeping the position for now.
Perda is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Perda is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Perda tries to free his leg and advance position but Armstrong is retaining full guard.
Armstrong wants to stand and escape but Perda is having none of it.
Perda has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Perda distracts Armstrong with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Perda accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Perda trying to control but Armstrong is working from the bottom.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Paulo Perda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Perda fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Armstrong to the ground. Perda is now in Armstrong's guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Paulo Perda showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Perda is looking for the big counter here.

Perda drives through with a takedown into guard.
Armstrong wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Perda manages to pass to side control.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Perda working over Armstrong with some ground and pound. Armstrong looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Armstrong has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Perda is on him like a limpet, forcing Armstrong back against the cage.

Armstrong drags the fight down to the ground.
Perda passes Armstrong's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Perda wants to pass the guard but Armstrong is defending well.

Perda is trying to work for a kimura but Armstrong is defending well.
Perda moves into full mount! Armstrong won't be happy about that!

Armstrong holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Perda tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Armstrong sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Perda is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Armstrong sees it coming and defends easily.
Armstrong is trying is best to control the position here.
Armstrong continues to stall.
Perda is keen to just control but Armstrong is a slippery customer.
Armstrong gets full guard.
Armstrong looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Perda puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Armstrong tries to get to full guard but Perda has control of the leg.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Perda is trying to control the action in half guard but Armstrong is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Armstrong is trying to control but can't.
Armstrong tries to kick Perda off but Perda keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Perda has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Armstrong defend it? Perda steps over the head and cranks it - Armstrong is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Perda!
