Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dock Ellis (ranked 3046 p4p, 283 weight class) and Alexi Laiho (ranked 1622 p4p, 186 weight class). Laiho has chosen Cold Sweat/ Thin Lizzy as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Dock Ellis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alexi Laiho!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, jab by Ellis - just one landing.

Laiho dives in and scores a takedown into Ellis's guard.
Laiho stopping the sweep attempt from Ellis.
Laiho trying to control but Ellis is working from the bottom.
Laiho working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Laiho throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ellis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Laiho throws an elbow that misses. Ellis uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Laiho's guard. Nice move by Ellis!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ellis continues to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ellis is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Ellis decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Laiho, up you get!
Ellis staying out of range there.
Ellis swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Laiho closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ellis's guard.

Ellis scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Laiho tries to grapple but his opponent circles
enabling Ellis to counter with a crisp jab.

Ellis throwing a counter right hand but Laiho manages to avoid it.
Ellis shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Alexi Laiho seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Laiho.

Ellis throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Laiho connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Ellis leaves Laiho with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Laiho misses with a body kick.
Ellis was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Left hook, right uppercut from Laiho.
Ellis moves away from the strike by Laiho.
Ellis appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Dock Ellis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Laiho fails to land with a series of punches.
Laiho shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ellis but Ellis pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Laiho looks to land a left hand but Ellis moved out of range nicely.
Laiho tries to clinch up.
Ellis displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Laiho throws out the jab.

Laiho throws a big shot that misses.
As Laiho backs away, Ellis returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

and Laiho takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Ellis bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Ellis moves away from the strike by Laiho.
Laiho rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Ellis counters with a crisp right that sends Laiho to the canvas! Ellis follows up with punches from the mount and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dock Ellis!
Our winner, Dock Ellis, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
