PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Tim Drive (ranked 1718 p4p, 208 weight class) and Doko Dokov (ranked 2546 p4p, 289 weight class). Doko Dokov told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tim Drive!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Doko Dokov!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Topper Green and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dokov misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Drive drops down looking for a counter takedown but Dokov sprawls and moves away.
Drive punishes Dokov's body with a nice straight punch.

Dokov rushes Drive and presses him up against the cage.
Drive scores with a hook to the body.
Drive tries to pull guard but Dokov holds him up against the cage and eventually Drive drops back down to his feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Drive pushes off an throws an elbow but Dokov leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

It looks like Doko Dokov has been cut.
Drive stalling in the clinch.
A nice right hand lands inside from Drive.
Drive lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Drive gets through Dokov's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Drive definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Drive creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Dokov wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Drive is trying to pull guard but Dokov turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Drive tries to throw a body punch but Dokov avoids it by throwing Drive back against the cage.

Drive lands a shoulder strike.
Drive has Dokov pressed against the cage.
Drive misses with the head strike.

Drive swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Drive jumps guard but Dokov stands there with Drive around his waist. Drive gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Drive is pushing Dokov up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Drive just misses with a elbow thrown towards Dokov's brow.

Dokov jumps guard and drags Drive to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Drive drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Drive jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Dokov is trying to control the position but Drive postures up.
Drive stands and throws Dokov's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Drive tries for a kimura but Dokov is defending well.
Drive working away.

Drive is trying to get an arm triangle but Dokov is defending well.
Drive is looking to take a break and control but Dokov is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Drive is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Dokov is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The strikes coming from Drive are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Drive tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Dokov throws Drive to one side and escapes!

Dokov looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Dokov gets control of Drive's arms and successfully pulls guard. Dokov will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Drive tries to move to mount but Dokov blocks the move with his legs.

Drive tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Drive has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Drive has managed to clinch.
Drive is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Dokov can do to turn this around?
Dokov lands with a left to the head.
Drive throws a punch but it's blocked by Dokov.
Drive is trying to pull guard but Dokov has him pressed against the cage.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Tim Drive overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Dokov blocks a body shot from Drive.
A head punch on the inside from Drive fails to land.

Dokov has picked Drive up - he's going for a ride! Dokov dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Doko Dokov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
