The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rippa moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
It looks like George St Ali has been cut. St Ali throws a leg kick but Rippa sees it coming and moves out of range. St Ali closes the distance and lands a one-two. Rippa throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Rippa lands with a slapping head kick. St Ali avoids a lazy jab quite easily. St Ali throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rippa's waist but Rippa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing St Ali off to one side. The crowd cheers as Rippa lands an impressive looking overhand right. St Ali doesn't seem phased though. Rippa fails to land with a series of punches.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! St Ali avoids a punch combination nicely.
Rippa throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. George St Ali has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! A combination from Rippa does no damage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck for Dam with that takedown attempt. Jade misses the shot to the body. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Jade lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Dam has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Dam and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Dam tries to clinch but Jade is having none of it. Dam looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Dam is looking to clinch. Dam tries to clinch up. Dam keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Jade. Jade fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dam manages to avoid it. Dam misses with a jab, cross combination.
Jade lands a nice hook to Dam's body. Dam takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Jade jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
Kevin Jade seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Jade shoots in and bounces Dam off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Jade would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Jade works his way back into a safe position though.

Kevin Jade has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Dam. Dam doesn't succeed with the takedown and Jade counters with a straight right hand. Dam is breathing heavily. The fighters circling - Dam throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Jade pivots, looking for a leg kick but Dam is out of range and Jade settles back down. Dam moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Jade throws the left hand but Dam avoids the punch easily. Jade misses with a body shot.
Horrible takedown by Jade or perhaps it was just good defense by Dam which made him look bad. Dam takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jade throws a right and a left that both miss. Jade lands a glancing blow to the side of Dam's head. Dam misses with a looping left. Jade swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Dam shoots and misses and Jade counters with a nice double leg into side control. Dam won't be happy with that. Dam is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Jade is controlling him well. Dam can't do much from the bottom here. Dam tries to buck Jade off but Jade is having none of it.

Jade drives through with a takedown into guard. Dam bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jade's guard. Dam wants to control from the top but Jade keeps moving. Dam takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Dam accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Jade wants to stand and escape but Dam is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Dam trying to control the position from guard on top but Jade is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Jade is looking to stand up but Dam isn't so interested in that idea.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Dam wants to clinch. Jade missing with a left hand there. Dam was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. The fight stays on the outside here - Dam looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Jade shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jade misses with a low kick as Dam jumps back. Dam slips a straight right by Jade. Jade fails to land with a series of punches.
Jade closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dam to the mat! Dam manages to get full guard. Dam wants to get back to his feet but Jade is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Jade has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dam is on top in guard.
