The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gates digs a good hook to Fabiano's body.
Fabiano tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Gates defends well and Fabiano ends up having to push Gates into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Gates misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Fabiano jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gates walks away with a smile on his face. Fabiano gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Fabiano fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Luiz Fabiano. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gates's corner calls for a 1-2. Gates obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

It looks like Luiz Fabiano has been cut.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gates has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Gates is throwing a storm of strikes! Right hook, left hook and follows it up with a spinning back fist! Fabiano hits the canvas like a rag doll! And just like that, this one is over!

Tanimoto has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Chimp.
Tanimoto connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.

Chimp scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Tanimoto has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Chimp is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tanimoto is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Chimp with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Chimp looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Tanimoto with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Chimp has Tanimoto pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Chimp pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Tanimoto tumbling to the mat - Chimp dives into Tanimoto's guard.

Tanimoto has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Chimp should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Tanimoto has tightened it up now! Chimp should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Urek goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
A slapping body kick lands there for Urek.
Urek connects with a leg kick. Starseed looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Urek scores with a spinning back kick!
Starseed blocks a head kick by Urek.
Urek tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Starseed takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Starseed crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Urek - the referee stops the clock and Starseed gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Urek. Starseed manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Yaj wants to clinch up but Chandler keeps it at a distance.
Yaj misses with a takedown attempt - Chandler sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
