The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mandzukic works the jab nicely.
Mandzukic throws a hook but Spartan avoids it easily.
Mandzukic throws a combination that misses
and Spartan counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Good shot there by Spartan.
Mandzukic drops his hands momentarily and Spartan takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Mandzukic waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Spartan.
Spartan throws an overhand right from the outside, which connects and sends Mandzukic stumbling backwards into the cage! Mandzukic bounces back off the cage towards Spartan, who cracks him with a two punch combination that drops him to his knees! Spartan lands two more shots before the referee has chance to intervene - what a finish! Spartan celebrates with his corner as the crowd cheer loudly.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). The Spartan!
A very excited looking The Spartan rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.

Modric rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mean moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Modric throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Mean moves into the clinch successfully.
Modric wants to get back to striking at distance but Mean won't allow it.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mean has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Modric breaks from the clinch.
Mean avoids the body shot from Modric.
Modric throws a series of punches but Mean moves out of range.
Modric connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Modric drives through and clinches with Mean against the cage.
Modric managing to block the knees to the body from Mean.

Modric lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!

Mean shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mean seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Modric does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Modric throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Mean manages to pass to side control.

Mean is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Modric is trying to escape and Mean transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Modric is forced to tap! Nice work there by Mean! Very nice indeed!
