The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Giap. No joy for Rege on that attempt. Rege moves into the clinch successfully.
Our sources have told us that Giap has been working on his knees in the buildup to the fight. Giap letting Rege take a breather here. Rege is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Giap is defending well for now. Rege on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Giap lands with a left to the head. Giap can't break the clinch.
Rege takes an elbow to the forehead.
It looks like Unigu Rege has been cut. Rege is trying to force a seperation but Giap has the dominant position. A head punch blocked on the inside by Rege. Rege jumps guard but Giap stands there with Rege around his waist. Rege gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rege has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Giap gets through Rege's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head. Giap creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Rege's defenses. Rege is pushing Giap up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Giap is looking to break free of the clinch but Rege has double underhooks.

You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Giap is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Rege is keeping busy. Rege pulls guard. Rege escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Giap gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Giap is looking to stand up but Rege won't let him.

Nice move. Rege tries to pass the half guard into mount. Giap knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Rege seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Rege is trying to control the action in half guard but Giap is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Rege is stalling here. Giap is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Rege seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Giap has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Giap tries to stand but Rege is controlling his head. Rege pushes Giap away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Giap gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Giap working away. Rege manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Come on Rege, up you get! Rege avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gardner shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
It looks like Rylan Gardner has been cut. The fight stays on the outside here - Gardner looks like he's thinking about clinching though. McBorin goes for a double leg but Gardner avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Gardner continues to drive forward. Gardner tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
McBorin is working for takedown but Gardner is calmly controlling the position for now. McBorin has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pena ducks under a wild hook from Carter. Carter definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Pena gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Decent striking displayed by Pena there. Pena throws a series of punches but Carter avoids them all with ease. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man. Thunderborn fakes a jab and throws a low kick but McWild checks it well.

McWild wants to take a breather but Thunderborn is having none of it. Jeffry McWild is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. McWild winds up and cracks Thunderborn with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jeffry McWild. Well I reckon that's a shut out for McWild, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
