The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Batman throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

MacLain closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
MacLain tries to score with some ground and pound. Batman controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
MacLain tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no MacLain has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Batman can do anything to dispel that myth.

MacLain misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

A very excited looking The Batman rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melkonian throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Melkonian rushes Gouken and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Gouken gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Melkonian.
Melkonian jumps guard but Gouken stands there with Melkonian around his waist. Melkonian gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Melkonian.
Gouken's coach down at 11th Planet Fitness ($100/wk) was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Gouken's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Melkonian keeps control of Gouken as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Melkonian has hold of one of Gouken's legs. Gouken is fighting the takedown attempt but Melkonian gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
