25 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Danny Mangold! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Phoenix connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Mangold closes the distance and pushes Phoenix back into the cage. Mangold is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Phoenix gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Mangold drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Mangold is trying to drag Phoenix to the mat but Phoenix just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Paul Phoenix has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Danny Mangold. Mangold managing to block the knees to the body from Phoenix.

No, Mangold has managed to get both his arms back between Phoenix's legs - danger averted. Phoenix content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Mangold had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Phoenix defends it easily. Phoenix trying to control but Mangold is working from the bottom. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Mangold is trying to control the position but Phoenix postures up. Mangold is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Phoenix works his way back into a safe position though. Phoenix landing some decent shots from guard. Phoenix trying to control the position from guard on top but Mangold is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Phoenix pushes down on Mangold's leg and manages to get into half guard. Phoenix lands with a punch from half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mangold tries to get to full guard but Phoenix has control of the leg. Phoenix looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Mangold with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Phoenix decides to stand and escape the position. Phoenix connects with a solid leg kick. Phoenix throws a sloppy head kick and Mangold moves out of range easily. Mangold is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own. Mangold darts in looking for a takedown but Phoenix gets double underhooks and turns Mangold into the cage. Phoenix throws a shot from downtown. Mangold moves away and avoids it. Nice sprawl there from Phoenix as Mangold shoots in. Phoenix connects with a high kick. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! A head kick by Phoenix misses and Mangold counters with a body kick that stops Phoenix in his tracks momentarily. Phoenix tries to clinch there but Mangold circles away.

Phoenix is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Mangold can do to turn this around? Phoenix lands a nice forearm strike. Phoenix looks up at the clock and then as Mangold takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Phoenix smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Mangold preventing the sweep. Mangold stands up over Phoenix, holding his feet. That was a close second round but I would say that Paul Phoenix will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Danny Mangold's cut. No joy for Mangold on that attempt. Paul Phoenix seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Phoenix tries to clinch up but Mangold circles away and keeps his distance. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mangold fails with a takedown attempt. Phoenix swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. A kick lands to the mid section there for Phoenix. Mangold takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Mangold takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Danny Mangold's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Danny Mangold's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Steel Penn closes the distance but McTavish moves to the side and Steel Penn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. McTavish has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

McTavish is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Steel Penn had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. McTavish cracks Steel Penn with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Steel Penn falls to his knees and McTavish doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!

A relieved looking Donald McTavish thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. Putski is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Ward can't fight it off and eventually Putski manages to take the fight to the floor. Ward looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Ward keeping full guard, as Putski tries to pass. Ward trying to keep a closed guard but Putski is proving a slippery customer.
Putski sitting in guard doing not very much at all here. Ward doesn't need a second invitation though! He's locked up a guillotine and he's squeezing tight! That is tiiiiiiiiight! Putski paying the price for stalling here - he's pushing hard on the arm trying to free himself but it's no use! He's tapped! WOW, quick submission from Ward - great work!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Mr Ward! Mr Ward tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Laar lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Hendrix has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Hendrix and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Laar lands with a thumping leg kick.

Hendrix throws out a loose jab but Laar uses good head movement to avoid it. Laar half committed to a counter leg kick. Hendrix misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hendrix stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Laar lands with a thumping leg kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! That kick from Laar tenderised Hendrix's leg. Hendrix is trying to keep his angry face on. Laar ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Laar throws a nice inside leg kick. Laar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Arvo Laar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hendrix keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

That's one minute gone in the round. Hendrix throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Laar on the side of the head. Hendrix on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Hendrix looks winded! Hendrix has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Laar. Laar throws a head kick that misses. Laar throws a leg kick that misses. Laar lands with a thumping leg kick.

It looked like Balor was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Nilkki. Balor takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Nilkki is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Balor is not content to let Nilkki control the position. Balor moves into full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Nilkki wants to control from the top but Balor keeps moving.
