The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
It looks like Mercury Hayes has been cut. Hayes moves out of range as Johnson strikes. Johnson displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hayes. Hayes tries to clinch up. Hayes moves into the clinch. Hayes stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

and Hayes counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Hayes is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Johnson pulls him back up using the underhooks. Johnson breaks from the clinch.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hayes doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Hayes darts in looking for a takedown but Johnson gets double underhooks and turns Hayes into the cage. Hayes moves out of range of the strikes. Hayes tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him. Hayes slips under a jab. Johnson lands with an overhand left. Johnson throws a big shot that misses. And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hayes! But no joy. Johnson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Hayes manages to avoid it. Hayes clinches with his opponent.

Johnson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. A frustrated look appears on Johnson's face as he tries to break the clinch. Johnson breaks the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hayes stops Johnson from getting back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! A jab lands there for Strunz. Strunz chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Wayne throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Strunz's waist but Strunz gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wayne off to one side.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wayne dives in and grabs Strunz's left leg, looking for a takedown. Strunz pushes down on Wayne's head and hops out. Wayne has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Wayne's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Strunz connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Wayne scrambles back to his feet. Strunz scores with a jab to the jaw. Strunz cracks Wayne with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Wayne shoots for a double leg takedown but Strunz sprawls well. He's pushed Wayne's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Bronko Strunz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Solomon Wayne. Wayne takes a body punch but keeps moving. Nice sprawl there from Strunz as Wayne shoots in. Nice straight punches there by Strunz. Fist wants to get back to full guard. Rougeau looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Fist with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Rougeau is nestled in close to Fist, controlling him well. Possibly an early stoppage but Fist doesn't seem to be complaining too much.
