The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nystrom takes the fight into the clinch.
Nystrom throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Pains head.
Nystrom throws a punch but it's blocked by Pain.
Pain wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Nystrom has him pressed against the cage.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Pain has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Nystrom struggles to land a body shot inside as Pain controls his hands.
Nystrom lands a hook to the side of the head.
A short body shot lands from Pain as the two fighters clinch.
Nystrom lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Pain lands with a left to the head.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Nystrom.
Nystrom lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Pain backwards.
Nystrom tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Nystrom is pressed up against the cage. Pain has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Nystrom down to the mat. Nystrom avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Nystrom pushes off an throws an elbow but Pain leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Pain takes an elbow to the temple.
Nystrom lands a hook to the side of the head.
Nystrom can't find room to land a body shot as Pain controls the action.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Nystrom.
Nystrom swings wildly with an uppercut but Pain uses good head movement to avoid it.
Pain takes an elbow to the temple.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Nystrom just misses with a elbow thrown towards Pain's brow.
Nystrom pushes Pain back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Nystrom tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Pain is pressed against the cage. Nystrom pushes back and unleashes a big elbow that really hurts Pain! Two more big strikes from Nystrom and Pain crumples to the mat and taps out furiously due to the strikes!

Royal Pain spoke after the fight, saying 'Shit, there goes my chance to be like Mike.'.

Vettenranta shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Adams napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Adams manages to work his way to half guard, despite Vettenranta's best efforts.
Adams wants to improve his position but Vettenranta is controlling well.
Adams gets back to full guard.
Adams looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Vettenranta keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Adams's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Adams is on top in guard.

Adams got a little sloppy there for a moment and Vettenranta has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Adams has managed to get both his arms back between Vettenranta's legs - danger averted.

and Adams counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

James Adams seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Vettenranta is holding his hands too far apart here. Adams throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! Vettenranta is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!
