Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Chief Curry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joseph Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Owens has chosen Thunderstruck by AC/DC as his entrance music. Chief Curry had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 172.6lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Steve Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Topper Green and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanchez throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Penn sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Sanchez throws a big shot that misses.
Sanchez misses with a straight left.
Sanchez throws a nice looking combination but Penn bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Penn tries to keep at a distance but Sanchez has taken the fight into the clinch.
Sanchez jumps guard but Penn turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Penn breaks the clinch.
Penn lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Sanchez tries to clinch there but Penn circles away.
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Penn as he jumps to the side.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both fighters circling a little - Penn finishes the exchange with a kick to the body.
Sanchez swings widly with a right hand
and Penn cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Sanchez throws the left hand but Penn avoids the punch easily.
A telegraphed right hand from Sanchez misses the target.
Penn scores with a kick to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Penn thumps Sanchez with a low kick.
Sanchez misses with a lunging right hand
and Penn counters with a leg kick.
Penn uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Sanchez.
Penn pushes Sanchez away with a front kick.
Sanchez throws a hook but Penn avoids it easily.
Penn throwing a counter right hand but Sanchez manages to avoid it.
Penn tests Sanchez's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Sanchez's jab looks to have found its range, popping Penn under the eye.
Penn explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Penn feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Sanchezs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Steve Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sanchez misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Penn finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Penn is looking for an opening here. He's unloaded a big left hand that catches Sanchez flush on the jaw and sends him tumbling to the canvas! Sanchez is out cold! Penn holds back from landing any unnecessary shots to his unconscious opponent, as the referee reacts slowly to the situation. A brutal knockout and then some excellent sportsmanship - this guy is my new favorite fighter!

A less than humble Reco Penn misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
