The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hughes drops Kennedy with a right and a left! Hughes comes rushing in but Kennedy regains his composure and manages to keep Hughes in guard.

It looks like Steven Kennedy has been cut.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kennedy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hughes's guard.


Kennedy drops back looking for a leg! Hughes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hughes manages to kick Kennedy off! Kennedy jumps back into Hughes's guard.

Hughes ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Hughes walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Hughes tries to keep at a distance but Kennedy has taken the fight into the clinch.
Oh Hughes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Kennedy jumps guard and drags Hughes to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Hughes seems to have got his legs back now.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hughes has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kennedy is proving hard to escape from.

Kennedy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hughes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hughes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Hughes controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kennedy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hughes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hughes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
