Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vai Funaki (ranked 9674 p4p, 850 weight class) and Johnny Lydon (ranked 8879 p4p, 823 weight class). Vai Funaki had real problems making weight for this fight. After initially coming in at 206.1lbs, he had two hours to make the official fight weight. He made it but it will have taken a lot out of him to cut those extra few pounds. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Funaki shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Funaki moves out of range of the strikes. Funaki went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected. Lydon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Funaki avoids a punch combination nicely.
Funaki closes the distance and clinches. Lydon letting Funaki take a breather here. Funaki slows down the pace here.
Funaki gets a warning from the ref for wasting time. Funaki stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Funaki as Lydon tries to tie him up.

He pushes Boyka back and as he springs towards him off the cage, Nijholt throws a beautiful elbow that sends Boyka crashing to the floor! Nijholt piles on the pressure with more strikes! Boyka is flailing away but he's not defending himself and the referee steps in to stop the fight!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shui throws a low kick but it's checked well by Dewey. Shui misses with a body kick. Shui swings for the body but Dewey moves out of range.
Dewey has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Shui is landing a low percentage of strikes. Shui ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Dewey moves away. Dewey moves out of range of the leg kick from Shui. Shui misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Dewey.
Dewey is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch. Shui just misses with a punch to the body.

Shui throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Dewey sees it coming and avoids it easily. Shui fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Dewey manages to avoid it. Shui misses with a takedown attempt and Dewey holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Shui trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Dewey is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shui defends well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shui in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Shui sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dewey's guard. Dewey is trying to control but can't.
Shui takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Dewey is trying to control but can't.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Dewey is trying to get back to full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Shui connects with a nice short shot to Dewey's temple. Shui tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dewey knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lin Shui is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between DJ Boom (ranked 1040 p4p, 122 weight class) and Peter Heart (ranked 1079 p4p, 127 weight class). Heart has chosen Eric Church - Record Year as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Peter Heart was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Heart catches Boom with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Nice defenses there by Heart. Boom sets himself, and Heart steps forward looking for the clinch! Boom avoids it this time. A telegraphed right hand from Boom misses the target. Boom throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Heart counters by clinching up. Boom blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Boom tries to work over Heart's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Heart tries a body shot but Boom blocks it.

This has been an exciting period of action! Heart misses with an uppercut. Boom saw that one coming. Heart throws a lazy right hand but Boom sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Heart displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Boom throws out the jab. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Boom shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Heart keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Boom. Boom throws out a loose jab but Heart uses good head movement to avoid it. Heart might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable. Jab by Heart. Heart throws an overhand right that lands on Boom's shoulder, as Boom tries to avoid the shot. Boom rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Heart moves out of range and avoids them all easily. A cross from Boom lands. Heart lands with a cross. A combination from Heart does no damage. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Boom shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Heart eats them both and turns towards Boom to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Boom throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
