0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Mad Max! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Jan decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Mad Max scoring well with a low kick there.
Mad Max connects with a high kick. Mad Max closes the distance and lands a one-two. Jan swings for the body but Mad Max moves out of range.
Mad Max stalks Jan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Jan's face. Jan staggers backwards, shaken. This has been an exciting period of action! Mad Max tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Jan counters with a nice double leg into guard. Mad Max is wriggling around but Jan manages to pass to half guard.
Mad Max tries to roll over but Jan keeps him under control. Jan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mad Max sees it coming and defends easily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jan with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mad Max has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jan is working away from the top position though. Jan content to control rather than advance. Mad Max really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Duff changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sharp looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Sharp throws Duff to one side and escapes! Duff with a poor takedown and Sharp makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Duff misses with a takedown and Sharp counters with a straight punch to the midsection. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Sharp swings for the body but Duff moves out of range.

Tony Duff has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Duff shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sharp manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Sharp pushes Duff off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there. Sharp connects with a body shot that sends Duff's belly button to the back. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

Duff closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Sharp throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Sharp throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Duff. Duff misses with a takedown attempt and Sharp counters with a lovely straight right hand! Asa Sharp is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. Duff on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.

That was a close round but I would say that Garegin Balayan will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
