The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tanahashi takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Whysocki takes one on the button. Tanahashi takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Whysocki slows the pace down in half guard. Tanahashi is pressing down on Whysocki's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Tanahashi has his hands on Whysocki's head, controlling the position. Whysocki stopping the sweep attempt from Tanahashi.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Whysocki is fighting to break Tanahashi's control of his arms but Tanahashi is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Whysocki cracks Tanahashi with a solid left hand. Tanahashi told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet. Tanahashi wants to sweep here but Whysocki controlling him for the moment. Tanahashi seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Whysocki missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Whysocki chips away with some ground and pound. Tanahashi wants to sweep but no luck. and Whysocki decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Tanahashi's guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tanahashi has control of Whysocki's left arm, preventing Whysocki from doing any damage. Whysocki working some strikes from top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whysocki forces his way into half guard. Whysocki throwing shots but Tanahashi is blocking nicely. Whysocki misses with a head shot. Tanahashi uses the momentum to regain guard. Rhicky Whysocki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Tanahashi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Whysocki's guard. Tanahashi not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Tanahashi wants to stand but Whysocki has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Whysocki lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Whysocki has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Tanahashi wants to stand but Whysocki is controlling the position. Whysocki trying to control but Tanahashi is working from the bottom. Tanahashi wants to get back to his feet but Whysocki is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

A close second round but Tomohiro Tanahashi will probably get the nod - 10:9. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Tanahashi lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

This has been an exciting period of action! Tanahashi walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Whysocki moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot. Tanahashi moves away from the strike by Whysocki. Tanahashi lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Fortytwo throws the left hand but Gaspar avoids the punch easily. Fortytwo has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Fortytwo throws a leg kick but Gaspar checks it. Gaspar misses with a right hand and Fortytwo counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Gaspar throws a lazy uppercut
and Fortytwo makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Fortytwo swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Gaspar scrambles back to his feet. One Fortytwo seems to be getting the better of the standup. Gaspar walks into a jab. Gaspar has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Fortytwo cracks Gaspar with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Fortytwo with a body punch. A glancing blow. Gaspar pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Gaspar looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Fortytwo connects with the punch. Gaspar moves out of range of the strikes. Gaspar looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that. Gaspar misses with a body punch

This entire fight has taken place on the feet so far and you wonder whether Gaspar might be better served trying to take this one to the ground because he's losing the standup battle so far. The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Clay swings widly with a right hand
and Caunt counters with a low kick, right behind Clay 's knee. A jab from Clay misses. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Caunt, as that shot connected.
Clay tries to bum rush Caunt with a series of wild strikes but Caunt uses good footwork to avoid the assault. A little jabbing left from Caunt on the counter but it doesn't find it's target. Clay misses with a straight right. Sloppy strikes from Clay. Those never looked like landing. Caunt cracks the inside of Clay's front leg. Clay blocks the body kick.

Clay tries a head kick but it misses.

Clay bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Caunt's head backwards. Clay darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
It looks like Dick Caunt has been cut. Clay misses with a leg kick. Caunt throws a fast counter high kick but Clay manages to duck under it in time. Clay ducks under a wild hook from Caunt. An attempted straight right counter from Clay misses the target. Caunt tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target. A slow jab from Clay misses its intended target. Clay throws a right hand that misses
and Caunt counters with a leg kick. Clay sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Clay lands a nice shot that snaps Caunt's head back.

Clay backing away here, and Caunt unleashes a leg kick that just misses. Clay goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Caunt lands a nice looking body kick. Clay misses with a lunging right hand
and Caunt counters with a solid body kick. Clay missing with a left hand there. Caunt was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Caunt staying out of range there. Clay misses with a hook to the body
and Caunt counters with a nice uppercut. Clay throws a lazy body kick and Caunt counters with a right hand to the body. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Clay does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Caunt looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Clay takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Caunt tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Clay was well out of range. Poor timing from Caunt. and Caunt makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. Clay will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body. Caunt scores with a body shot.

I was talking to Darwin's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. A head punch on the inside from Darwin fails to land. Darwin lands on the inside with an uppercut. Diaz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Diaz avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Darwin goes for a high kick. It partially lands. We've been informed that Diaz has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Darwin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Diaz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Darwin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Darwin tries to stand but Diaz is controlling from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Diaz is looking to advance position but Darwin won't allow it. Diaz is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Darwin has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Diaz to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Darwin is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Diaz pulls down on the head and he's put Darwin to sleep! This one is all over!

Spud fires out a quick counter leg kick but Duranto just manages to avoid it. That kick from Spud tenderised Duranto's leg. Duranto is trying to keep his angry face on. Mma comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Mma bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Mma misses with a right hand enabling Divac to counter with a crisp jab. Mma with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Divac to score with a decent uppercut. Mma lunges at Divac with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Divac's hand. Mma throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end. Divac looks to land a left hand but Mma moved out of range nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
