John Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Davis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.

and Griggs counters with a series of strikes that sends Pereira to the canvas! Griggs follows down into guard, looking to finish the fight!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Griggs controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Griggs is pushing down on Pereira's leg trying to pass to half guard. Pereira is fighting to maintain full guard but Griggs has managed to sneak the leg through.

Griggs looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Griggs looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Griggs loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Pereira scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Griggs land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Griggs stands and salutes the crowd.
