We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Data has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Main event

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tater Salad (ranked 1148 p4p, 4464 weight class) and Joao Miyao (ranked 124 p4p, 344 weight class). Salad comes into the arena with Tater Salad blaring out of the sound system. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Salad throws a good cross that connects.
Salad moves into range and connects with a jab.

Salad tries to pull guard but Miyao holds him up against the cage and eventually Salad drops back down to his feet.

Miyao is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Salad is defending well though. Miyao let's go of the attempt for now.
Salad knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Miyao on the ground.
Salad rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Salad moves into full guard.
Salad wants to sweep here but Miyao controlling him for the moment.
Miyao trying to control the position from guard on top but Salad is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Salad is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Salad has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Miyao has passed into side control.

Salad is not content to let Miyao control the position.

Miyao tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Miyao has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Miyao is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Salad knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Miyao wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Salad, who protects the arm well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Salad manages to work his way to half guard, despite Miyao's best efforts.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
