The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lavigne uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rousey.
A counter left hand to the body from Lavigne misses its target.

Rhondon Rousey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rousey throws a hook but Lavigne avoids it easily.
Rousey rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Lavigne cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Rousey throws the left hand but Lavigne avoids the punch easily.
Rousey throws a poor cross that misses
and Lavigne counters with a right hand to the body.

We've been told by Lavigne's head coaches at The Foundry that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Lavigne takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Rousey tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Lavigne manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

A looping hook to the body misses from Rousey. Lavigne does a little dance to reset his feet.

Rousey is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Lavigne punishes Rousey's body with a nice straight punch.
Rousey misses with a double jab
and Rousey takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

Lavigne walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Rousey drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Lavigne swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Rousey's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:12 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gervais Lavigne!
