Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hans Gruber (ranked 2447 p4p, 4192 weight class) and Sergio Vargas (ranked 338 p4p, 517 weight class). Vargas has chosen a warrior's call as his entrance music. Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hans Gruber! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Sergio Vargas! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vargas uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gruber.
Vargas has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout. Gruber connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Vargas momentarily.
Gruber wants to clinch. Vargas looks like he wants to counter punch here. Gruber tries to close the distance and clinch up but Vargas swats him away and circles back towards the center. We've been told by Gruber's head coaches at fuck you that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Vargas jabs at Gruber's body. Gruber cracks Vargas with an open hand slap. Vargas changes levels and scores with a jab to the body. Vargas gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Gruber. Vargas takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Vargas scores with a decent looking hook. Hans Gruber seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Gruber slips a jab from Vargas.

Gruber throws a head kick that misses. A jab from Vargas finds it's way through Gruber's defenses. Sergio Vargas is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Vargas uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gruber.
Gruber wants to clinch. Vargas moves away from the strike by Gruber. Gruber lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Gruber. Vargas checks the leg kick nicely there.
A jab from Vargas does it's job there. A head kick misses from Vargas. Gruber tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Vargas paws at him with a jab and circles away. Vargas misses with a head kick.
Vargas lands with a good body shot. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Gruber works Vargas's body with a nice hook. Vargas rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Vargas takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Gruber tries to clinch but Vargas is having none of it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vargas tries to keep at a distance but Gruber has taken the fight into the clinch. Gruber is working Vargas over against the cage. Vargas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Gruber throws a body shot but no joy. Vargas tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gruber was well out of range. Poor timing from Vargas. Some bone on bone action there as Gruber checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. No luck with that takedown attempt from Gruber. Vargas throws a hook to the side of Gruber's head but Gruber sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Gruber tries for a takedown but Vargas sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. A bone on bone clash there as Vargas blocks the leg kick.
Gruber ducks under a wild hook from Vargas. Gruber closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Gruber tries for a kimura but Vargas is defending well. Vargas parries the strikes from Gruber easily there. Gruber is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Vargas to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vargas is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Gruber working away. Vargas might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Gruber haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time. Vargas is looking for a sweep. Vargas wants to get back to his feet but Gruber drags him back down. Gruber is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Vargas has escaped the position, nice work there. Gruber working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Vargas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gruber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Vargas tries to buck Gruber off but Gruber is having none of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Vargas is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Gruber looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Vargas is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Gruber has just dragged him back down to the mat. Vargas is looking to regain half guard here but Gruber keeps moving and retains side control. Gruber wants to control but Vargas is keeping him busy. Gruber controlling the position from side mount. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Hans Gruber will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Vargas shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Gruber eats them both and turns towards Vargas to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Vargas is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gruber. Gruber tries to clinch up. Gruber tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Vargas manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Gruber throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Gruber lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Gruber slips under a jab. A punch combination from Vargas misses. Gruber is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Vargas. Gruber moves into the clinch. Gruber is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Vargas is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Gruber is keeping busy. Gruber throws a punch but it's blocked by Vargas. Vargas misses with some punches.

Gruber lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Gruber throws a punch but it's blocked by Vargas. Gruber throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges. Gruber leaning his opponent against the cage. Gruber trying to land knees to the body.

Gruber swings wildly with an uppercut but Vargas uses good head movement to avoid it. Gruber is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Vargas pulls him back up using the underhooks. Vargas manages to break the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vargas scores with a hook to the body. Gruber takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Gruber drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Vargas throws a jab when Gruber was well out of range. Gruber misses the jab. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Vargas moves away from the strike by Gruber. A nice inside leg kick there by Vargas. That's going to slow Gruber down. Vargas lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Gruber steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Vargas. Gruber drops his hands momentarily and Vargas takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Gruber swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Gruber shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Vargas pushes Gruber off looking to stand but Gruber dives back in and keeps control.
Gruber is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Vargas wants to improve his position but Gruber is controlling well.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Vargas can do anything to dispel that myth. Gruber trying to control from half guard but Vargas is working away. Hans Gruber overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Gruber controlling the action here. Gruber seems to be working for a kimura but Vargas defends the submission attempt. Vargas is trying to get back to full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Vargas is trying to stand up here but Gruber is controlling him well. Gruber passes to full mount! Vargas tries to reverse the position but Gruber maintains control. Vargas is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Gruber wants to finish this one by submission but Vargas is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Gruber. Gruber is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Gruber!
