Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Smirnov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jacques Piaget!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Francis DeMontford and John Mangel.

Piaget misses with a head kick.
A solid leg kick lands there for Piaget.
Smirnov misses with a takedown attempt
and Piaget counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Smirnov goes for a double leg but Piaget avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Piaget continues to drive forward.
Smirnov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Piaget tries to avoid it but Smirnov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Piaget to the ground. Piaget escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ivan Smirnov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smirnov tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Piaget defends well and Smirnov ends up having to push Piaget into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Piaget uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Smirnov.

Piaget throws a front kick that sends Smirnov stumbling back into the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smirnov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Piaget is fending him off so far but Smirnov persists. Nope, Piaget circles away and we're back to standing.

Piaget lands a big head kick that sends Smirnov tumbling to the mat! Piaget takes a step backwards and waves Smirnov back to his feet - he wants the finish!

It looks like Ivan Smirnov has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Smirnov moves forwards but Piaget connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Nice defenses there by Piaget.
Oh Smirnov is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Horrible takedown attempt by Smirnov or perhaps it was just good defense by Piaget, which made it look bad.
Smirnov seems to have got his legs back now.
Piaget displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Smirnov.

Smirnov bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smirnov scores with a couple of short elbows.
Piaget tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smirnov wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Smirnov happy to just control the position for now.
Piaget really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smirnov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
You can see the frustration on Piaget's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Smirnov has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Smirnov is working to tighten his grip on Piaget's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Piaget has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Smirnov is really squeezing tight and eventually Piaget passes out! Smirnov breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ivan Smirnov!
