Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 22 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Lennon! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 24 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Klaus Chugman! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lennon misses with a right hand and Chugman counters with a nice double leg into side control. Lennon won't be happy with that. Lennon throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done! Nice body punch from Chugman. Lennon throws a body kick that misses. Chugman wants to clinch up but Lennon keeps it at a distance. Lennon misses with a left hand and Chugman counters with a nice double leg into guard. Lennon has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Chugman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Chugman trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Chugman looking to pass the guard. Chugman throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chugman wants to control from the top but Lennon keeps moving. Chugman engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
That's one minute gone in the round. Chugman drops back, looking for a kneebar! Lennon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Lennon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Lennon! Chugman is looking to regain half guard here but Lennon keeps moving and retains side control. Chugman takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Lennon in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Lennon throwing strikes but missing, from side control. Lennon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Lennon throwing shots but missing, from side control. Lennon working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chugman sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Lennon lands with a punch from half guard. Chugman felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Chugman wants to get back to full guard but Lennon has passed into side control. Chugman is looking for a sweep. Chugman is still trying to improve position. Chugman gets back to half guard. Lennon thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Lennon throwing shots but Chugman is blocking nicely. Chugman actively working from the bottom here. Chugman keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Chugman keeping control of the position. Chugman trying to hold on to Lennon's head to control him but Lennon postures up.
Chugman is holding on to half guard well. Lennon tries to pass the half guard into mount. Chugman knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Chugman slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Chugman looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Lennon is defending well. Chugman quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Lennon has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Chugman celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
