PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Aki Hiko (ranked 1486 p4p, 1516 weight class) and Hellas Pankratios (ranked 58 p4p, 59 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hellas Pankratios!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and Paul Tew.

Pankratios shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Pankratios was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hiko struggling a bit here.
Hiko is not content to let Pankratios control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hiko is trying to get back to half guard.

Hiko takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

It looks like Aki Hiko has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Pankratios tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Pankratios has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Hiko is looking to reverse the position.

Pankratios wants to control for a moment but Hiko uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Hiko is looking to improve his position.
Hiko has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Pankratios scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Pankratios slips a nice elbow through Hiko's hands, connecting with Hiko's forehead.

Hiko is staying active underneath Pankratios, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Pankratios is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hiko sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hiko manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Hiko really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Pankratios is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Hiko can't keep his opponent in guard - Pankratios advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Pankratios content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Pankratios looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Hiko with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Hiko tries to roll over but Pankratios keeps him under control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Pankratios lands a nice short elbow.

Hiko is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Pankratios is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Pankratios is trying to control the action in half guard but Hiko is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Hiko is looking for a sweep. Pankratios is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Pankratios lands with a punch from half guard.

Aki Hiko's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Aki Hiko's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Hellas Pankratios!
Hellas Pankratios tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
