PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mason Edwards (ranked 2146 p4p, 3207 weight class) and Ben Warren (ranked 286 p4p, 409 weight class). Edwards comes into the arena with My Time blaring out of the sound system. Mason Edwards has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Edwards!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ben Warren!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Radbod Blank and Albert Achterberg.

A combination from Warren does no damage.
Warren lands a nice hook to Edwards's body. Edwards takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Warren pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Edwards tries to clinch up.
Edwards connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Warren momentarily.
Ben Warren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Some wild striking there from Warren.
Edwards half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Warren gets tackled into the cage by Edwards. Edwards maintains the clinch.
Warren working some nice short punches in the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Edwards tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Warren misses with a hook to the ribs.

Edwards ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Edwards no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Edwards looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Warren wants to stand but Edwards has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Edwards working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Warren doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Warren manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Warren stands and steps away. Edwards gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Edwards showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Warren.
Warren works over Edwards's head and body with a nice combination.

Edwards dodges the punch combination from Warren.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Warren has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Warren scores with a kick to the body.
Edwards is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Warren looks to land a body kick but Edwards moved away.
Warren throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Sloppy strikes from Warren. Those never looked like landing.
Edwards looks for a takedown but Warren sprawls well.
Warren throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Edwards counters with a takedown into side control.
Edwards tries to advance to mount but Warren denies him.
Edwards has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Edwards thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Edwards looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Warren is trying to get back to his feet.

Edwards is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Warren is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Warren tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.

Warren defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Warren is trying to stand back up.
Warren is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Edwards off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Warren is looking to escape here. Oh dear - Edwards has locked on a rear naked choke here! Warren is tapping out! The fight is over!
