Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Bird (ranked 768 p4p, 993 weight class) and Silent Bob (ranked 102 p4p, 137 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Silent Bob!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bird fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bob swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Bird counters with a nice body shot.

Bird has closed the distance and engaged Bob in a clinch.
Bob misses with a hook to the ribs.
Bird scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Bob breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Bird half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.
Bob misses the shot to the body.
Bird moves out of range as Bob strikes.
Bob throws a lazy uppercut
and Bob takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Bob is looking to land body kicks.
Bird tries to counter with a takedown but Bob is quick to defend against it.
Bob has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Bob there as he acknowledges the shot.
Silent Bob seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bob lands with a good body shot.
Bird tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bob was well out of range. Poor timing from Bird.
Bob was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Bob's coach down at White Eagle was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Bob's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Bird tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.

Bird fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Bob avoids it really well and circles away.
Bob throws an overhand right that lands on Bird's shoulder, as Bird tries to avoid the shot.
Bird shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Silent Bob is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A good leg kick by Bob.
Bird takes one on the button.

Bird drives through and clinches with Bob against the cage.
Bob struggles to land a body shot inside as Bird controls his hands.
Bob is working Bird over against the cage.
A nice left hand lands by Bob.
Nice body punch from Bob - that landed with a thud.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Bob.
Bird tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Bob just stands there and leans against the cage.
Bob misses with a short punch on the inside.
Bird blocking some punches.
A body shot lands from Bird.
Bird tries to pull guard but Bob won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Bird. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bird manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Bob trying to control the position from guard on top but Bird is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bird has his foot on Bob's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Bob works his way back into a safe position though.
Bob stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bird swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Bird has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Bob doesn't defend quickly enough and Bird has managed to lock this one up! Can Bob escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Bird on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jake Bird!
A less than humble Jake Bird misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
