PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tommy Gavin (ranked 1140 p4p, 347 weight class) and Chan Siam (ranked 146 p4p, 43 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Tommy Gavin has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Tommy Gavin seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tommy Gavin!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chan Siam!
The judges for this bout are Illya Tyunina, Valeri Chadov and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Siam connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Gavin momentarily.

Siam instigates a clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Gavin's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Siam has Gavin pressed against the cage, preventing Gavin from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Gavin breaks from the clinch.

Siam darts in and clinches Gavin up against the cage.
Gavin wants to break free but Siam has control.
Siam lands a right hand that snaps the head of Gavin backwards.
Gavin can't break the clinch.

Siam pulls guard successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gavin wants to stand but Siam is controlling his posture from full guard.

Siam is working an open guard so Gavin takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Gavin on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Gavin misses with a jab, cross combination.
And Siam tries to counter it with a takedown but Gavin pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Siam lands a jab to Gavin's midsection.
Nice uppercut lands for Gavin. That snapped Siam's head back.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Siam uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gavin.

Gavin gets tackled into the cage by Siam. Siam maintains the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Siam lands a hook that snaps the head of Gavin backwards.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Siam has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Gavin tries to break free but Siam pushes him back against the cage.

Gavin breaks from the clinch.

Siam gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Siam jumps guard and drags Gavin to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Gavin got a little sloppy there for a moment and Siam has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gavin has managed to get both his arms back between Siam's legs - danger averted.
Gavin wants to stand but Siam has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Siam working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gavin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gavin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Siam looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gavin is one step ahead there.
Siam has a closed guard, preventing Gavin from standing up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gavin decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Siam, up you get!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Good standup being displayed there by Siam as he connects with a hook.
Siam avoids the head kick by Gavin.
Gavin ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Gavin displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Siam.
Siam shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Gavin counters with a stiff right hand.

It looks like Chan Siam has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Siam misses with a hook. Gavin ducked under it nicely.
Siam looks to clinch
and Gavin connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Siam is rocked!
Gavin stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Gavin wants it to stay on the feet.
Tommy Gavin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chan Siam.

Gavin lands a big uppercut and Siam crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Siam looks OK. Gavin waves Siam back to his feet!
Siam is still on wobbly legs! Can Gavin finish him?
Gavin flashes Siam a smile before throwing a beast of a right hand, straight down the pipe. Siam's eyes follow the hand right onto his nose, taking in it's full glory... and then darkness. Siam crumples to the floor! He's out cold! Gavin punches the air and yells at the top of his lungs - yeeeeeeeeeeah!!!! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Tommy Gavin!
Tommy Gavin is the new featherweight champion!
An out of breath Tommy Gavin thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
