PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Giuseppe Hopkins (ranked 157 p4p, 301 weight class) and Anthony Romeo (ranked 28 p4p, 50 weight class). Anthony Romeo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Giuseppe Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Anthony Romeo!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hopkins throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.

Hopkins lands a big uppercut and Romeo crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Romeo looks OK. Hopkins waves Romeo back to his feet!

It looks like Anthony Romeo has been cut.
Romeo misses with an uppercut.
Hopkins gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A swing and a miss from Romeo.
Hopkins thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Romeo if he has to take too many more of those.
Romeo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Romeo jabbing away but nothing is landing.
A little feinted left hand from Hopkins on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Hopkins misses the shot to the body.
Romeo swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Hopkins rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
letting Romeo counter with a right hand.
Hopkins displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Romeo throws out the jab.
Romeo blocks a jab.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Romeo! But no joy.
Hopkins misses with a body shot
and Romeo counters with a stiff right hand.
Romeo punishes Hopkins's body with a nice straight punch.
Romeo throws a looping overhand right but Hopkins ducks down to avoid it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Romeo gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Romeo lands a right hook to the body.
Hopkins is looking to land body kicks.
A little jabbing left from Romeo on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
Romeo feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hopkinss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Hopkins takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Romeo cracks Hopkins with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Hopkins looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Romeo finish him?

It looks like Giuseppe Hopkins has been cut.
Hopkins lunges at Romeo with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Romeo's hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Romeo avoids the head kick by Hopkins.
Giuseppe Hopkins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hopkins uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Romeo.
Hopkins is looking to counter punch.
Hopkins throws out a loose jab but Romeo uses good head movement to avoid it.
Hopkins looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Romeo! But no joy.
Hopkins throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Romeo counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Hopkins throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

Hopkins gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Romeo might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Romeo walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Romeo takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

That has opened up Anthony Romeo's cut even more.

Romeo cracks Hopkins with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Hopkins looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Romeo finish him?

Hopkins is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nice straight punches there by Hopkins. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Hopkins.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Anthony Romeo dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Hopkins's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Hopkins lands with a kick to the ribs.
Romeo throws a body punch but Hopkins moves out of range.
Romeo throws a right hand that misses
and Hopkins counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Romeo connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Hopkins throws a good cross that connects.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Romeo takes one on the button.

Romeo is rocked!

The cut above Anthony Romeo's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Hopkins throws a wild body kick that Romeo sees coming a mile off.
A little jabbing left from Romeo on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hopkins sends Romeo crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Hopkins is motioning to the referee to let Romeo up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!
Romeo is still on wobbly legs! Can Hopkins finish him?
Giuseppe Hopkins is winning the standup battle so far.
Nice defenses there by Hopkins.
Romeo seems to have recovered his senses.
Romeo misses with an uppercut. Hopkins saw that one coming.
Romeo lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Hopkins uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Romeo.
Hopkins throws a lazy body kick
and Romeo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Hopkins smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Hopkins ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

and Romeo counters with a crisp right hand that drops Hopkins! Romeo lets Hopkins back up to his feet, looking for a finish!
Oh Hopkins is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Romeo comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Hopkins seems to have got his legs back now.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Hopkins lands a right hook to the body.
Jab, jab by Hopkins - just one landing.

Anthony Romeo's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Romeo takes one to the chin there.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Anthony Romeo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:20 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Giuseppe Hopkins!
Giuseppe Hopkins spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
