Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ray Jones!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Monty Don!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Richard Clark and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones looks to score with a jab to the body but Don is just out of range.
Don is looking to chop away at Jones's legs.
Jones changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Jones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Don throws a big elbow that misses.
Don looking to pass the guard.
Jones is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jones utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Don stopping the sweep attempt from Jones.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Don postures up and lands a big shot to Jones's brow.
Don advances to half guard.
Don scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Don scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Jones trying to control from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Don looks to land a strike but Jones avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Don looking to pass the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Don makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Don is looking to work some ground and pound but Jones has wrist control.
Jones has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Don lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Don has gone for a leg lock! Jones slips out almost immediately though and dives into Don's guard.


Don is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Don holds on and takes a little breather.
Jones trying to control but Don is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Don swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Don is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jones, into his guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Don trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Don working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Jones's head.
Don trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Don stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Jones has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Don manages to get his head free but now Jones has transitioned to an armbar! Don grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Jones! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Ray Jones!

A very excited looking Ray Jones made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
