PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Scott Murley (ranked 1680 p4p, 2200 weight class) and Anatoli Vasiliev (ranked 222 p4p, 293 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Scott Murley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Anatoli Vasiliev!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Ren Mimura and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Vasiliev clinches up against the cage.
Vasiliev throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Murleys head.
Murley misses with a short punch on the inside.
A nice right hand lands inside from Murley.
Vasiliev throws a knee to the head but misses.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Murley creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Vasiliev with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Vasiliev has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Murley regains guard immediately.
Murley is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Vasiliev tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vasiliev has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Vasiliev is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Murley has escaped the position, nice work there.
Murley tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Murley manages to work his way to half guard, despite Vasiliev's best efforts.
Vasiliev trying to mount his opponent but Murley defends it.

Vasiliev looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Vasiliev moves nicely into side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Murley wants to control but Vasiliev postures up.
The ground and pound from Vasiliev seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Murley sneaks back into half guard.
Vasiliev is trying to control the action in half guard but Murley is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Murley tries to roll over but Vasiliev keeps him under control.

Vasiliev is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Murley doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Vasiliev.

Vasiliev tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Murley paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Vasiliev misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Vasiliev throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Vasiliev tries to close the distance and clinch up but Murley swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Vasiliev moves in looking to clinch but Murley pushes him off.
Murley jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Vasiliev moves into the clinch.
Murley swings wildly with an uppercut but Vasiliev uses good head movement to avoid it.
Murley digs a right hand into Vasiliev's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Vasiliev's gas tank.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Murley.
Murley cracks Vasiliev with a nice body shot.
Murley lands with a left to the head.
Murley lands a hook that snaps the head of Vasiliev backwards.
Murley doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Vasiliev tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Murley avoids it.

Murley misses with a hook from the clinch.

Vasiliev is looking for a kimura but Murley is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Vasiliev to get the leverage.

Murley has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Vasiliev jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Murley walks away with a smile on his face. Vasiliev gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Murley throws out a powerful jab.
Anatoli Vasiliev is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Vasiliev uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Murley.
Vasiliev shoots for a double leg takedown but Murley sprawls well. He's pushed Vasiliev's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

and Murley makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

Scott Murley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anatoli Vasiliev.
Vasiliev throws a right hand that Murley ducks under and follows up with a left that Murley also avoids with ease.
Vasiliev takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Vasiliev dives in for a single leg takedown but Murley sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Anatoli Vasiliev seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Murley lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Vasiliev moves out of range as Murley strikes.

Vasiliev on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Vasiliev uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Murley.

Murley throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Murley bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Vasiliev's head backwards.

Oooooh!!! Murley has knocked Vasiliev down with a huge combo! Murley steps away and waves a wobbly Vasiliev back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Vasiliev is rocked!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Vasiliev looks to land a right hand but Murley moved out of range.
Vasiliev is still on wobbly legs! Can Murley finish him?
Vasiliev's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Murley connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Vasiliev scrambles back to his feet.
Murley throws the left hand but Vasiliev avoids the punch easily.
Vasiliev moves in looking to clinch but Murley pushes him off.
and Murley counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Vasiliev! He's just covering up as Murley starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Scott Murley!
