PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Like Boss (ranked 820 p4p, 1202 weight class) and Monte Zuma (ranked 36 p4p, 37 weight class). The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Like Boss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Monte Zuma!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Francis DeMontford and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zuma shoots in but Boss avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Zuma dives in and grabs Boss's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boss pushes down on Zuma's head and hops out.
Boss thows a left - swing and a miss!
Boss misses with an uppercut.

Zuma decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Boss is trying to control but can't.
Zuma trying to pass the guard but Boss defending well.
Zuma is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Zuma works his way into full mount!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

It looks like Zuma might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Zuma's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Zuma can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Boss is looking to escape.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Boss tries to escape the position.

Zuma is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Boss knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Boss for a finish.

Boss is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Zuma.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Boss throws a body punch but Zuma moves out of range.

Boss gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Zuma seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Zuma bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Boss's guard.

Boss is looking to control Zuma's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Boss avoid being mounted?

Zuma seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Boss does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Zuma wants to take a breather but Boss is having none of it.

Zuma is looking for a kimura but Boss is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Zuma to get the leverage.

Boss has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Zuma is working away from the top position though.
Boss is not content to let Zuma control the position.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Boss won't allow Zuma to pass to mount.

Zuma throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Boss tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Zuma is in Boss's guard.

Boss pushes Zuma off and scrambles back to his feet.
Zuma will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Zuma looks for a takedown but Boss sprawls well.

Boss is looking for a sweep. Zuma is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Zuma wants to control but Boss is keeping him busy.
Boss has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Zuma is working away from the top position though.

Zuma looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Zuma is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Boss sees it coming and defends easily.
Zuma is figuring out what he wants to do next.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Monte Zuma showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

A jab from Boss misses.
Zuma slips a jab from Boss.
Zuma shoots in for a takedown but Boss shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Boss half committed to a counter leg kick.
Boss throws a leg kick but Zuma checks it.
Zuma dives in for a single leg takedown but Boss sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Boss dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Zuma. That did some damage!
Zuma will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Like Boss has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monte Zuma.

Zuma manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Boss on his heels. He'll look to pass Boss's guard now, I'm sure.

Zuma might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Boss haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Zuma postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Boss is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Zuma, into his guard.

Zuma has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Boss is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Zuma.
Monte Zuma is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Zuma gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Zuma has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Boss is working away from the top position though.

Zuma is doing well to control the position and prevent Boss from advancing to side control.

Boss is looking to take a break and control but Zuma is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Boss wants to stand up but Zuma has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Zuma is controlling Boss's trapped leg to prevent Boss from advancing to side control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Zuma takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Like Boss has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Zuma fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Boss sprawls well initially but Zuma persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Monte Zuma has got the better of the ground game so far.
Boss is trying to get back to full guard.
Boss won't allow Zuma to pass to mount.
Zuma is controlling the pace.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Like Boss.
I think Zuma has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A very excited looking Monte Zuma rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
