Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Papa Legba (ranked 943 p4p, 1296 weight class) and Patrick River (ranked 141 p4p, 199 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying River's choice of entrance music: Pantera - Walk. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Papa Legba!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Patrick River!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Colin Fotheringham and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
River misses with a wild body shot.

Legba throws a shot from downtown. River moves away and avoids it.

Legba connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between River's hands.

The referee is keeping an eye on Legba - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Legba wants to take the fight to the mat but River manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

River is fighting off a takedown attempt but Legba is just too persistent for him and manages to trip River to the mat. River regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Legba stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. River swivels though and keeps the full guard.
River can't keep his opponent in guard - Legba advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Legba is sneakily working for an arm triangle but River sees it coming and defends easily.

River is trying to maintain the position but Legba is very close to passing his half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Legba is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so River is just riding it out for now. Legba eventually gives up the hold.

That was a close round but I would say that Papa Legba will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Legba shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts River as he jumps to the side.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Legba misses with a hook. River ducked under it nicely.
It seemed like River was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Legba chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before River can pounce on him.

Legba shoots in looking for a takedown. River tries to sprawl out of it but Legba keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. River manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

River misses with a looping left.
River throws a big shot that misses.

Patrick River seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Legba shoots in and gets a takedown into River's guard.

River had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Legba defends it easily.

Legba has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but River can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
River in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Legba looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Patrick River will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Legba connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed River momentarily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
River ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Legba takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Legba takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

River is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Legba is aware though and is defending well.
Legba throws an elbow that misses. River uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Legba's guard. Nice move by River!

River throws a strike but Legba rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Legba passes River's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Legba is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but River still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, River has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

River wants to lay and pray for a moment but Legba keeps working.

River is landing with some decent strikes but Legba is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
