PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Louis C K (ranked 1095 p4p, 1287 weight class) and Ernest Graves (ranked 132 p4p, 159 weight class). C K comes into the arena with Live at Carnegie Hall blaring out of the sound system. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Louis C K!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 21 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ernest Graves!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Graves throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. C K tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Graves is in C K's guard.
Graves working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of C K's head.
Graves pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. C K is keeping the position for now.

C K is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at Roosters Coop that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Graves sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed C K's guard.

C K is trying desperately to improve position.
C K wants to hold on but Graves pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Graves is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. C K knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften C K for a finish.

C K is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Graves has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, C K has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Graves looking to break C K's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. C K remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Graves will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Graves is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. C K is defending well though. Graves let's go of the attempt for now.

Well, with Graves on his back, surely it's only a matter of time before C K is tapping out... Can he escape the position?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Graves is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. C K defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

Graves is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Graves gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Graves gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Graves apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Graves darts in looking for a takedown but C K gets double underhooks and turns Graves into the cage.

Graves feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Graves shoots in looking for a takedown. C K tries to sprawl out of it but Graves keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. C K manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Louis C K has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ernest Graves.

Graves throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. C K was covering up waiting for the punch and Graves finishes the takedown easily into guard.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Graves working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

Graves has hold of C K's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and C K manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

C K bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
