PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kobayashi Jin (ranked 618 p4p, 1031 weight class) and Manuel Silva (ranked 86 p4p, 146 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kobayashi Jin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Manuel Silva!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jin just misses with a punch to the body.
Jin misses with a looping left.
Silva is trying to counter with his kicks.
Jin has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Psycho’s Elites in the buildup to the fight.
Silva misses with a straight right.
Jin on the wrong end of a nice hook.
A looping hook to the body misses from Silva. Jin does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jin stuns Silva with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Silva.
Silva turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Jin misses with a looping right.
Silva staying out of range there.
Silva swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Nice body punch from Silva.
Jin looks to land a right hand but Silva moved out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A jab lands there for Jin.

Jin gets caught napping as Silva dives in and scores a takedown. Jin manages to retain guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jin is looking for a triangle but Silva pushes his legs off easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Silva not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jin is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Silva is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Jin misses the shot to the body.

Silva fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Jin to the ground. Silva is now in Jin's guard.

Jin has Silva pulled in close to control his posture.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Silva got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jin has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Silva has managed to get both his arms back between Jin's legs - danger averted.
Silva wants to stand but Jin is controlling his posture from full guard.

Jin had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Silva defends it easily.
Jin will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Jin isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Silva stacks Jin on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Silva!

Jin wants to control but Silva postures up.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Jin manages to get back to half guard.
Silva with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Silva has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Jin prevents any damage by holding on tight.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jin regains half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Manuel Silva dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Silva connects with the punch.
Jin keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Silva closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jin's guard.

Silva slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Silva has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Silva lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Jin has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Jin and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Silva ducks under a wild hook from Jin.
Silva throws a jab but it's blocked by Jin.
Silva looks to land a combination but Jin avoids it well.
Jin was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Jin swings for the body but Silva moves out of range.
Silva let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Silva throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Jin throws a looping overhand right but Silva ducks down to avoid it.
Silva looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jin is fending him off so far but Silva persists. Nope, Jin circles away and we're back to standing.
Silva tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jin swivels and escapes.
A little feinted left hand from Jin on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

Silva gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Jin to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Jin won't allow Silva to get back to his feet.
Jin wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Silva with the ground and pound but Jin uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Silva is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Silva uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jin.

Manuel Silva showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jin as he jumps to the side.

Silva ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Jin throws an overhand right that lands on Silva's shoulder, as Silva tries to avoid the shot.
A swing and a miss from Jin.
Jin takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Jin enables Silva to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Jin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Silva wants to stand but Jin has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Silva has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Jin is proving hard to escape from.

Silva throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jin tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Silva is in Jin's guard.
Jin wants to control the position but Silva says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Jin gets back to full guard.
Jin is trying to control the position but Silva postures up.

Jin tries to move into range but Silva moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Jin tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Silva was well out of range. Poor timing from Jin.
Silva avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Manuel Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Silva has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
