PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jake Bird (ranked 807 p4p, 396 weight class) and Ned Kelly (ranked 106 p4p, 52 weight class). Kelly comes into a darkened arena with his song building. I'm a Criminal kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jake Bird!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ned Kelly!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Percy O'Donnell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kelly throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Bird changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Kelly throws an off balance right hand

so Bird counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Bird stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kelly swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bird looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Kelly lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


Kelly decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Ned Kelly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kelly lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.

Bird shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kelly napping and manages to drive through into side control!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Bird working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bird prevents Kelly from escaping the position.
Kelly is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.
Kelly is not content to let Bird control the position.
Bird working away.

Bird is trying to get an arm triangle but Kelly is defending well.

Bird thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Bird swings around for an armbar but Kelly sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Bird's guard.

Bird looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Bird keeping moving, preventing Kelly from controlling successfully.

Bird looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kelly passes into side control.

Bird is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Kelly's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Kelly! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Bird has tapped! This one is allllll over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Ned Kelly!
Ned Kelly seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
