Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the super heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 21 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Norman Pearson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 44 - 27 - 2, fighting out of Amsterdam, Miguel Cotto!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cotto loads up on a big right hand but Pearson slips the punch.
Pearson went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Cotto throws a leg kick but Pearson sees it coming and moves out of range.
Pearson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Pearson bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Pearson swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
A head kick from Cotto lands but Pearson takes it in his stride.

It looks like Norman Pearson has been cut.
Cotto scores with a punch to the head.
Some wild striking there from Pearson.
Cotto only half commits to the counter leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pearson avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Pearson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Pearson fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cotto has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Cotto throws a lazy right hand but Pearson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Pearson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

A lazy left from Cotto finds it's target.

Pearson rushes Cotto and presses him up against the cage.

Pearson breaks from the clinch.
Pearson fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Pearson tried to score with a low kick but Cotto checks it.
A nice inside leg kick there by Cotto. That's going to slow Pearson down.
Cotto throws a front kick aimed at Pearson's knee but Pearson avoids it well.
As Cotto backs away, Pearson returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.
Pearson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Cotto.
Miguel Cotto is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cotto fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Miguel Cotto seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Cotto misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Pearson moves out of range as Cotto strikes.
Cotto throws a low kick but it's checked well by Pearson.
Pearson keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

It looked like Pearson wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Cotto throws a nice inside leg kick.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Pearson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Pearson staying calm.

Pearson has hold of Cotto's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Cotto seems comfortable defending it but Pearson has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Cotto is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Cotto is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Pearson couldn't care less - he's delighted!
