PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between David Choke (ranked 1850 p4p, 1657 weight class) and Jeremiah Hill (ranked 240 p4p, 220 weight class). Jeremiah Hill will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, David Choke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jeremiah Hill!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Dillan Fox and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Choke misses with a takedown
and Hill connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Hill throws a looping overhand right but Choke ducks down to avoid it.

Choke closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Hill quickly recovers to half guard.
Hill avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Choke.

Choke looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Choke is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Hill!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Choke throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Choke throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
Choke wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Choke is working hard here to advance position.
Hill told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Hill sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Hill moves into full guard.
Hill really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Choke. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hill preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Choke pushes down on Hill's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Choke seems to be working for a kimura but Hill defends the submission attempt.

Hill is concentrating on defense, preventing Choke from advancing position.

Choke is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hill doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Choke.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hill keeping hold of Choke's head, controlling as best he can.
Hill wants to get back to full guard.

Choke is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hill sees it coming and defends easily.
Choke tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hill knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Choke is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hill wants to control but Choke is keeping busy.

Choke is looking for a kimura but Hill is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Choke to get the leverage.

Hill is looking for a sweep. Choke is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Choke seems to be looking for submissions.
Choke is looking to advance position but Hill won't allow it.

Choke is working for an americana but Hill has been sneaky and has managed to get back to half guard, whilst Choke was thinking about the submission.

Choke pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hill is keeping the position for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hill has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Hill keeping full guard, as Choke tries to pass.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

David Choke dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Choke fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Hill swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Choke shoots for a double leg takedown but Hill sprawls well. He's pushed Choke's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hill appears to be waiting to throw a counter punch to the body.
Choke looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hill keeps the fight on the outside.
Choke tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hill swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Choke counters with a shoot takedown. Hill fights it but they end up in guard.
Choke wants to pass the guard but Hill is keeping the position.
Choke advances to half guard.

Hill avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Choke.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Choke seems to be looking for submissions.
Choke frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Choke goes for an armbar but Hill turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Hill.
Hill looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Hill stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Choke swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Choke is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Hill is aware though and is defending well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hill got a little sloppy there for a moment and Choke has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hill has managed to get both his arms back between Choke's legs - danger averted.

Choke has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hill can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Choke escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hill gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
David Choke overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Choke lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jeremiah Hill has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Choke drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hill manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Choke has Hill in his guard.


Choke working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hill doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hill manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Hill is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Choke working for a triangle but Hill defends it easily.
Choke wants to sweep here but Hill controlling him for the moment.

Choke throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Hill escapes and throws Choke's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Choke tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hill wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Hill is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Choke tries to buck Hill off but Hill is having none of it.
Hill trying to control the action but Choke is working from the bottom.
Hill has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Choke is looking to get to half guard.
Choke regains half guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that David Choke will probably get the nod.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Choke looks for a takedown but Hill sprawls well.
Hill swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
Hill leaves Choke with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A nice side step and Hill releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Choke fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Hill throws out a counter right but Choke avoids it with no problem.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Choke. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hill now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

A big left from Hill misses.
Choke on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Hill wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Jeremiah Hill is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Choke defending well as Hill loads up on a big left hand.
Hill shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Choke eats them both and turns towards Hill to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Hill lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Choke fails with the takedown.
Hill throws out a counter right but Choke avoids it with no problem.
Hill throws a hook to the side of Choke's head but Choke sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Choke gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Hill counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Choke takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Choke shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Hill looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hill missing with a left hand there. Choke was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Hill connects with a solid leg kick.
Choke with a poor takedown

and Hill counters with a nice right hand that sends Choke toppling to the canvas! Choke scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Hill finish him?!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Choke.
A little jabbing left from Hill on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

Hill lands a big uppercut and Choke crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Choke looks OK. Hill waves Choke back to his feet!

Choke is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Choke.
Hill looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Choke takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Hill just misses with a punch to the body.
Choke is looking to clinch but Hill is avoiding it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jeremiah Hill comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Choke has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
