Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hong Kong (ranked 1055 p4p, 1144 weight class) and Frankie Griggs (ranked 160 p4p, 170 weight class). Griggs is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by LL Cool J- Momma Said Knock You Out. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Frankie Griggs was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 8 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Hong Kong! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frankie Griggs! The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Edson Gomes and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kong shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Griggs pinned against the cage. Griggs gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Griggs falls off balance throwing a combination
and Kong counters with a takedown into side control. Griggs pushes Kong away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kong gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Griggs felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Griggs is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Kong working the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Griggs is trying to buck Kong off. Kong working the head and body with strikes. Kong is chipping away with strikes.
Griggs takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Kong in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Kong looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Kong working the ground and pound from side control. Griggs pushes Kong away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Kong gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Griggs takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Kong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griggs keeps working. Griggs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kong. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kong sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Griggs is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Griggs wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done! Kong has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Griggs is not content to let Kong control the position. We've been hearing good reports from Kong's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Kong in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Kong is looking to take a break and control but Griggs is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Kong is really struggling to control Griggs but he's trying to hold on to the position. Kong controlling the position. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Kong tries for a kimura but Griggs is defending well. Griggs managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Kong.

That's three minutes gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Griggs is not content to let Kong control the position. Griggs wants to get back to his feet. Kong misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Griggs tries to escape but Kong is in control. Kong is looking to take a break and control but Griggs is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Griggs takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. Kong creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. Griggs takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Kong creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Griggs sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kong wants to control but Griggs is keeping him busy. After a battle for position, Kong asserts his dominance and retains side control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that is the end of the round. Hong Kong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kong scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Griggs wants to get back to his feet. Kong is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Griggs can do to turn this around? Kong controlling the action here. Griggs has one foot on Kong's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. Kong swings widly with a right hand
enabling Griggs to counter with a crisp jab. Kong misses with a body shot.
Kong uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Griggs.
Nice sprawl there from Griggs as Kong shoots in. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kong works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Kong misses with a hook. Griggs checks the leg kick nicely there.

That's one minute gone in the round. Kong slips a straight right by Griggs. Kong thows a leg kick but Griggs checks it and Griggs counters with a series of strikes. Kong will be more careful next time no doubt. Kong uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Griggs. Griggs misses with a few strikes there.
Griggs gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Kong to score an easy takedown into full guard. Kong advances position into side control! Kong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Griggs keeps working. Griggs is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Kong is trying to get an arm triangle but Griggs is defending well.

Kong is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Griggs knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. This has been an exciting period of action! Kong cracks Griggs with a big right hand but Griggs just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Griggs has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Kong is really squeezing tight and eventually Griggs passes out! Kong breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Hong Kong! Hong Kong decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way. Frankie Griggs was interviewed post fight and said 'It'll be back to the drawing board. This isn't the end. Everytime I lose I only come back the next fight much stronger.'.
