Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kevin McGuire (ranked 298 p4p, 291 weight class) and Henry Akinwande (ranked 15 p4p, 4 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think McGuire might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 15 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Henry Akinwande!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Taro Takaoka and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McGuire misses with a body kick.

Akinwande got a little sloppy there for a moment and McGuire has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Akinwande has managed to get both his arms back between McGuire's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McGuire has his foot on Akinwande's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Akinwande works his way back into a safe position though.
McGuire is looking for a triangle here but Akinwande uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Akinwande's coach down at Torcida MMA was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Akinwande's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
McGuire is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Akinwande wants to get up but he can't break McGuire's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

McGuire throws a left and a right that both miss
and Akinwande counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
McGuire ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Akinwande moves away.
It seemed like Akinwande was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
A jab lands there for McGuire.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Kevin McGuire will probably get the nod.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
McGuire cracks Akinwande with an open hand slap.
A kick lands to the mid section there for McGuire.
Akinwande ducks straight into an uppercut from McGuire and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Akinwande manages to regain guard straight away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McGuire postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Akinwande wants to stand and escape. He's got his foot on McGuire's hips, looking to push off. But McGuire grabs a hold of the leg and drops back for an ankle lock! It's hard to tell if he's got it. Both fighters look composed - OH, not anymore they don't! Akinwande screams like a kid who's trapped his fingers in the car door and taps out! Yikes, that must have hurt - hopefully it's not snapped anything!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:51 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Heel Hook). Kevin McGuire!
