PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between 3 Piece Soda (ranked 2305 p4p, 2878 weight class) and Ruddo Ryokale (ranked 227 p4p, 282 weight class). Soda kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is 3 Nights. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, 3 Piece Soda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ruddo Ryokale!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Tiny Johnson and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soda keeps Ryokale at a distance using the push kick.
Soda fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Ryokale on the side of the head.

Soda shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Soda was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Soda tries to advance position but instead Ryokale slips a leg back in to half guard.
We've been hearing that Soda has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Soda wants to control but Ryokale is keeping him busy.
Ryokale tries to get to full guard but Soda has control of the leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ryokale is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Soda pulls his head out easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ryokale taking some punishment here, with Soda in his half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ryokale looking for submissions off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ryokale is looking to control Soda's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ryokale avoid being mounted?
Soda thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Soda perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Soda is looking for a kimura here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Soda is keen to just control but Ryokale is a slippery customer.
Ryokale regains full guard. Nicely done.
Ryokale can't keep his opponent in guard - Soda advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Ryokale makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ryokale.
Soda slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Soda trying to control but Ryokale is working from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
3 Piece Soda seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Soda lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Ryokale fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Soda to the ground. Ryokale is now in Soda's guard.
Soda has momentary wrist control but Ryokale slips an elbow through the middle.
Ryokale engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Ryokale trying to control but Soda is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ryokale working some strikes from top position.

Soda looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Soda has momentary wrist control but Ryokale slips an elbow through the middle.
Ryokale working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Ryokale is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Soda has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Ryokale is looking to defend but Soda has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Ryokale! Soda pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Ryokale taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). 3 Piece Soda!
A very excited looking 3 Piece Soda made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
