PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between KC Day (ranked 5349 p4p, 3377 weight class) and Walter Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 437 weight class). Walter Jackson told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, KC Day!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Walter Jackson !
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Joseph Jones and Reed Andrews.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Day moves into the clinch.
Day throws a punch but it's blocked by Jackson .
Jackson has Day pressed against the cage.
Jackson throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Day struggles to land a body shot inside as Jackson controls his hands.
Day misses with some punches.
Day using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Jackson has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Jackson with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Jackson prevents a body shot from Day.

Jackson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Day clinches.
Day misses with a shot to the kidneys.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jackson is trying to trip Day. He has hold of a leg but Day is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Jackson persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Jackson throws a big right hand that misses.
Jackson postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Jackson makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Day working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jackson .
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Jackson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Day is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Day has escaped and now he's on top!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Day avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Jackson is pulling down on Day's head. It's preventing any offense from Day, at least for the moment.
Jackson wants to sweep here but Day controlling him for the moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Jackson working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Day doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Day manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Jackson throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jackson managing to control the position.
Jackson 's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Jackson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Day has passed into side control.
Jackson tries to improve position but can't.
Jackson sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Jackson moves into full guard.
Jackson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jackson tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Day wants to clinch.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jackson dips to his left and cracks Day with an uppercut!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Jackson scoring well with a low kick there.
Day moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.

It looks like KC Day has been cut.
Jackson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Jackson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Day's guard.
Day is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Jackson dives into side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Walter Jackson dominated that round.
The cut man is working on KC Day's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Day gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Day scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Jackson blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Jackson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
A nice right hand lands inside from Jackson .
A head punch on the inside from Day fails to land.

Jackson has Day pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Jackson pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Day tumbling to the mat - Jackson dives into Day's guard.
Day is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Jackson dives into side control.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jackson in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Jackson tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackson is looking to take a break and control but Day is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Jackson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Jackson throws an elbow but Day slips to the side and avoids it well.
Jackson lands some shots froms side control.
Jackson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The strikes coming from Jackson are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Jackson scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Day to see if he's OK.

Day is rocked!
Jackson in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Day looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Jackson turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Walter Jackson !
After winning the bout, Walter Jackson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
