PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Zhang Jun (ranked 790 p4p, 1498 weight class) and Juan Kemonito (ranked 48 p4p, 91 weight class). Kemonito comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Kemonito Entrance Music kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Zhang Jun!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Kemonito!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Colin Fotheringham and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kemonito has closed the distance and engaged Jun in a clinch.
Kemonito wants to take the fight to the mat but Jun manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Jun doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Kemonito jumps guard but Jun turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Jun is trying to maintain a safe position but Kemonito gets an underhook and turns Jun into the cage.

Jun pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kemonito slips a straight right by Jun.
Kemonito with the counter takedown but Jun avoids it easily.
Kemonito sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Jun lands a nice looking kick to the body. Kemonito takes a step back to recover.

Jun bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jun throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jun lands a nice looking body shot.
Jun avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Jun.

Kemonito walks into a left hand.
Zhang Jun seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kemonito shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
A counter left hand to the body from Jun misses its target.
Zhang Jun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Kemonito.
Jun throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Kemonito on the side of the head.
Kemonito avoids a kick to the body.
Kemonito avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kemonito looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Jun is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Jun tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Kemonito is able to avoid easily.

Some bone on bone action there as Kemonito checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

and Kemonito counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jun won't be happy with that.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Kemonito tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Jun is trying to improve his position.
Kemonito looks up at the clock and then as Jun takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Kemonito smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Jun is looking to regain half guard here but Kemonito keeps moving and retains side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Jun tries to buck Kemonito off but Kemonito is having none of it.

The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Jun is looking for a sweep.
Jun wants to control but Kemonito postures up.
Jun is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kemonito landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
Jun is not content to let Kemonito control the position.
You can see the frustration on Jun's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Kemonito trying to control the action but Jun is working from the bottom.
Jun is looking for a sweep.
Jun is trying to work for a sweep but Kemonito has mounted him!
Kemonito lands with some strikes.
Kemonito is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Jun can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Kemonito looking to finish Jun with some ground and pound. This is bad for Jun!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jun tries to reverse the position but Kemonito maintains control.
Jun regains half guard.
Jun is pressing down on Kemonito's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Zhang Jun will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Kemonito closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Jun has had enough of the clinch but Kemonito keeps him there for the moment.
Jun has a couple of punches blocked by Kemonito.
Kemonito fails to pull guard.
Jun is trying to break the clinch but Kemonito is controlling him.
A frustrated look appears on Jun's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Jun has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Jun wants to break free but Kemonito has control.
Jun tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Jun breaks the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Kemonito counters with a nice uppercut.
Kemonito has his takedown stuffed
and Kemonito takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Kemonito shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Jun is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.

Jun lands a glancing blow to the side of Kemonito's head.

Kemonito forces Jun back against the cage and clinches.
Kemonito is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Jun gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Zhang Jun has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Kemonito.

Jun's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kemonito tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Jun misses with a hook to the body
and Kemonito counters with a nice uppercut.

Zhang Jun is winning the standup battle so far.
Nice defenses there by Kemonito.
Kemonito is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Jun has a hand on Kemonito's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Kemonito takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!

Kemonito landing strikes from the mount and Jun is in trouble!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jun tries to reverse the position but Kemonito maintains control.
A nice elbow there by Kemonito.
Kemonito tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Jun tries to lock up and control but Kemonito gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Kemonito raining down shots from the mount!

Jun is rocked!

Oh Jun is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kemonito is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Kemonito working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Jun turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Kemonito off and cradles Jun's limp body as Kemonito celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Anaconda Choke). Juan Kemonito!
Juan Kemonito spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
