PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sovor Trandel (ranked 2309 p4p, 2730 weight class) and Warren Peace (ranked 283 p4p, 329 weight class). Trandel comes to the cage accompanied by Fuel and Fire - Bride. Peace comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Somebody Gonna Get It kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sovor Trandel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Warren Peace!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Sam Margolis and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Trandel throws a shot from downtown. Peace moves away and avoids it.
Trandel throws a jab but it's blocked by Peace.
A shot to the body from Trandel misses
and Peace counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Trandel throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Peace counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A big right from Peace misses.
Peace ducks under a wild hook from Trandel.
Trandel showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Peace.
Trandel scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A jab lands there for Trandel.
Peace walks into a left hand.
Peace uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Trandel.
Peace misses with a wild body shot.

Trandel drives through with a takedown into guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Trandel controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Peace wants to stand but Trandel is controlling the position.

Peace looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Trandel seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Peace for as long as he can get away with.

Trandel is trying to work for a kimura but Peace is defending well.
Trandel stops Peace from getting back to his feet.

Trandel is taking a breather. Peace says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Peace fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Trandel changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Peace uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Trandel.
Peace ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

and Peace cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

and Trandel counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Peace can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Trandel controls the pace.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Trandel controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

That's time! Trandel's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Peace keeps the fight on the outside.
Peace jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Trandel changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Peace now looks to counter with a shot at the body.

Trandel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Trandel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Trandel tries to move to mount but Peace blocks the move with his legs.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trandel is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Peace knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Trandel controls the position.

Peace is not content to let Trandel control the position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Trandel is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Peace is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Trandel wants to lay and pray for a moment but Peace keeps working.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Trandel slows the pace down.
Peace is trying to control Trandel's posture but Trandel avoids it.
Peace is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Trandel has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Trandel tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Trandel has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

The referee asks Trandel politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Trandel prefers to stall for the moment though.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Peace can do anything to dispel that myth.
Peace can't do much from the bottom here.
Peace stops Trandel from passing to mount.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Trandel is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Peace can do to turn this around?
A telegraphed right hand from Trandel misses the target.

Peace gets tackled into the cage by Trandel. Trandel maintains the clinch.
Peace lands with a right to the head.
Peace wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Trandel has him pressed against the cage.
Trandel blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Trandel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Peace scores with a sloppy right hand. Trandel should have avoided that one.
Trandel displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Peace throws out the jab.
Peace slips a straight right by Trandel.
Peace wants to counter the offense by Trandel and move into the clinch position.
Peace throws a shot from downtown. Trandel moves away and avoids it.

It seemed like Peace was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Warren Peace is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Sovor Trandel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Trandel tries to clinch but Peace is having none of it.
Peace unleashes a big counter combination but Trandel bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Sovor Trandel will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Peace throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Trandel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Peace was well out of range. Poor timing from Trandel.
Trandel throws a jab but it's blocked by Peace.
Trandel looks to land a right hand but Peace moved out of range.
Trandel changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Peace tries to avoid it but Trandel manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Peace to the ground. Peace escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Trandel tests Peace's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Trandel bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Trandel has control of an arm but Peace manages to advance to Trandel's back!
Peace is striking from the back but Trandel escapes and manages to recover to half guard.
Trandel works his way to full guard. Good work.

Trandel is looking for a triangle but Peace pushes his legs off easily.
Peace landing with the ground and pound.
Peace trying to control the position from guard on top but Trandel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Trandel looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

Peace throwing strikes from guard but Trandel blocks nicely.
Peace throws a strike but Trandel rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Warren Peace has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sovor Trandel is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Trandel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Trandel tries to free his leg and advance position but Peace is retaining full guard.
Sovor Trandel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Trandel seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Trandel's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Peace controls Trandel momentarily but Trandel frees himself.
Trandel slips nicely into half guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Trandel, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
