PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Scooter Bob (ranked 250 p4p, 482 weight class) and Jubei Akechi (ranked 33 p4p, 67 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Scooter Bob!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jubei Akechi!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bob uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Akechi.
Akechi keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Bob throws a looping overhand right but Akechi ducks down to avoid it.

Akechi closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Bob dodges the ground and pound from Akechi.
Bob tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Akechi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ground and pound from Akechi seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Akechi looks up at the clock and then as Bob takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Akechi smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Akechi creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Bob sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Akechi looks up at the clock and then as Bob takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Akechi smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Akechi misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Bob is not content to let Akechi control the position.
Akechi has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Akechi remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Akechi wants to control the pace but Bob is squirming around nicely.
Bob knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Akechi on the ground.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bob is refusing to be controlled, as Akechi sits in half guard.
Akechi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Jubei Akechi dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bob fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Akechi.

Akechi fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Bob to the ground. Akechi is now in Bob's guard.

Bob stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Akechi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Akechi wants to take a breather but Bob is having none of it.
Akechi is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Akechi lands a nice short elbow.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Akechi stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Bob connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Akechi's hands.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Bob takes one to the chin there.
Bob moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Jubei Akechi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Bob's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Akechi looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Bob with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Akechi cracks Bob with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
BOOM! Akechi connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Bob tries to reverse the position but Akechi maintains control.

Jubei Akechi is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Akechi is continuing to stall.
Akechi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Let's hope that Akechi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Jubei Akechi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Akechi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
