PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ross Kemp (ranked 1204 p4p, 1176 weight class) and Norman Pearson (ranked 167 p4p, 164 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Norman Pearson!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearson throws a big shot that misses.
Pearson takes one to the side of the head.
Kemp scores to the head and body with a nice combination!

It looks like Norman Pearson has been cut.
Pearson throws a shot from downtown. Kemp moves away and avoids it.
Kemp looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Kemp closes the distance looking to clinch
and Pearson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Pearson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Pearson swings widly with a right hand
letting Kemp counter with a right hand.
Pearson misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Kemp swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

Pearson's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

With the fighters up against the cage, Pearson throws an elbow but misses.
Pearson blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Kemp is trying to break the clinch but Pearson is controlling him.
Pearson is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Pearson digs a right hand into Kemp's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Kemp's gas tank.

Kemp avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kemp avoids the body shot from Pearson.
A counter left hand to the body from Kemp misses its target.
Pearson throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kemp sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kemp scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Kemp instigates a clinch.

Pearson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Kemp lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Kemp doesn't manage to clinch there - Pearson circles away.

Kemp has closed the distance and engaged Pearson in a clinch.
Kemp lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Pearson or not.
Kemp can't find room to land a body shot as Pearson controls the action.

Kemp misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A right hook to the body lands for Kemp.
Pearson looks winded!

Kemp breaks the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kemp is stalling here.
Pearson blocks a body shot from Kemp.
Pearson misses with a punch on the inside.
Kemp avoiding damage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Pearson.
Kemp lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Pearson works on Kemp's body with a couple of short punches.

Kemp wants to break the clinch but can't.
Pearson looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Kemp is trying to push Pearson away but Pearson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Ross Kemp will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Norman Pearson's cut.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

A looping hook to the body misses from Pearson. Kemp does a little dance to reset his feet.

and Kemp counters with a three punch combo that has Pearson backing up. Pearson nods at Kemp to acknowledge the strikes.
Pearson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Nice defenses there by Kemp.
Kemp throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Kemp steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Pearson.
Pearson keeps the fight on the outside.

Kemp fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Pearson, pushing him back against the cage.
Kemp wants to break free but Pearson has control.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Pearson takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Pearson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pearson connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Kemp tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Pearson counters with a nice uppercut.

Kemp moves into range and clinches up with Pearson.
Kemp lands a hook that snaps the head of Pearson backwards.
Pearson is trying to push Kemp away but Kemp has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Kemp can't find room to land a body shot as Pearson controls the action.
Kemp letting Pearson take a breather here.
Kemp is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Pearson throws a head punch that misses.
Ross Kemp has scored more points in the clinch so far.

Pearson has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Pearson there as he acknowledges the shot.
The crowd cheers as Kemp lands an impressive looking overhand right. Pearson doesn't seem phased though.
Pearson looks to land a combination but Kemp avoids it well.

Kemp connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Pearson's hands.
Kemp lands the left hand.
A jab from Pearson misses.
Kemp went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Kemp is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Pearson looks to land a right hand but Kemp moved out of range.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kemp tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Pearson paws at him with a jab and circles away.
As Kemp backs off Pearson throws a huge counter combo but Kemp manages to avoid it all.
Kemp goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Ross Kemp is winning the standup battle so far.
Kemp goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Kemp scores with a nice right hand.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Ross Kemp dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Norman Pearson's cut.
That's time! Kemp's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Kemp glances at the clock... BAM! Pearson nails him with a big right hand! A momentary lapse in concentration sends Kemp crashing to the mat! The referee steps in and this one is over! Damn, Kemp is out of it, he thinks the ref is his opponent!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Norman Pearson!
After winning the bout, Norman Pearson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
