PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Makres (ranked 1136 p4p, 2803 weight class) and Davido Monto (ranked 177 p4p, 387 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Makres might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to SABATON - Coat of Arms. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Davido Monto enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Makres!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Davido Monto!
The judges for this bout are Percy O'Donnell, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Makres closes the distance but Monto moves to the side

and Monto counters with a shoot takedown. Makres fights it but they end up in guard.
Monto with a flurry of punches that miss.
Monto missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Makres wants to stand up but Monto is controlling him.
Monto throws an elbow that misses. Makres uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Monto's guard. Nice move by Makres!

Makres tries to stand but Monto is controlling from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monto escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Makres gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Monto is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Makres got a little sloppy there for a moment and Monto has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Makres has managed to get both his arms back between Monto's legs - danger averted.
Makres would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Monto has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Makres can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Makres stands and steps away. Monto gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Monto takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Makres gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Monto to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Monto has gone for a leg lock! Makres slips out almost immediately though and dives into Monto's guard.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Makres wants to stand but Monto has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Monto is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Makres is aware though and is defending well.

Monto is working an open guard so Makres takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Monto throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Makres's waist but Makres gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Monto off to one side.
