PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shen Po (ranked 133 p4p, 156 weight class) and Silent Bob (ranked 18 p4p, 23 weight class). Po kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ei-tetsu Hayashi & 木下伸市. Shen Po is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shen Po!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Silent Bob!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Richard Clark and James Ackerman.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Po just misses with a punch to the body.
Bob walks into a stiff left hand from Po.
Bob connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Bob closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Bob swings away with a leg kick that misses.
A low kick from Bob misses

and Po counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Po engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Bob has his foot on Po's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Po works his way back into a safe position though.
Po controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Po tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Po is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Bob is just riding it out for now. Po eventually gives up the hold.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Po is looking to take a break and control but Bob is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Po definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Po looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Bob is not content to let Po control the position.
Po is really struggling to control Bob but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Bob is looking to control Po's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bob avoid being mounted?
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Po is pressing down on Bob's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bob is holding on for now.

Bob is looking for a sweep. Po is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Po seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Po takes a swing at Bob's ribcage but misses.
Po backing away here, and Bob unleashes a leg kick that just misses.
Bob wants to slow Po down by chopping away at his legs.

Po fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bob manages to avoid it.
Bob throws out a counter right but Po avoids it with no problem.
Po doesn't manage to clinch there - Bob circles away.
Bob fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Bob takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Po misses with a telegraphed body shot

This has been an exciting period of action!
Po shoots in but Bob avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Bob, as that shot connected.
Po digs a good hook to Bob's body.
Bob lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Bob scores with a jab to the body.
Bob doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Po takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Po moves into the clinch successfully.
Po lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
A head punch on the inside from Po fails to land.
Po scores with a nice hook to the head.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Shen Po dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Bob breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bob throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Bob connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Bob throws a jab when Po was well out of range.

Bob dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Po. That did some damage!
Po misses with an uppercut. Bob saw that one coming.
Po misses the shot to the body.
Some bone on bone action there as Po checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
An attempted straight right counter from Po misses the target.
Po scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Bob doesn't seem bothered though.
Bob on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Silent Bob is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
The fighters circling - Po throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Po goes for a double leg but Bob avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Bob continues to drive forward.

Po is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Bob can do to turn this around?

Bob lands a hook that snaps the head of Po backwards.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Po tries to work over Bob's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Po changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bob fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Bob throws a front kick aimed at Po's knee but Po avoids it well.
Bob throws a half hearted mid kick.

A shot to the body from Bob misses
and Po counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Po throws a body shot but no joy.
Bob throws a leg kick which misses Po's front leg but catches the back leg as Po tries to avoid it.

Some bone on bone action there as Po checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Po tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bob swats him away and circles back towards the center.
A decent looking cross lands there for Bob.

Silent Bob seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Bob throws a low kick, looking for Po's leg but Po calmly moves out of range.
Po scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Bob works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Bob lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Silent Bob seems to be getting the better of the standup.
A big left from Bob misses.
A little feinted left hand from Po on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Bob throws a leg kick but Po checks it.
Bob works Po's body with a nice hook.
Po lands with a good body shot.
Po throws a body shot but no joy.
That kick from Bob tenderised Po's leg. Po is trying to keep his angry face on.
Bob wants to clinch up but Po keeps it at a distance.
Po was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Po is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
Po connects with a jab.
Po lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Bob comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Po throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Po tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Bob smiles and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shen Po. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Po just misses with a punch to the body.
Po throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Bob feints a counter leg kick.

and Po counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
The fighters circle momentarily. Po darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Bob wants to land a leg kick but Po is out of range.

Po misses with a hook to the ribs.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Po lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

A close second round but Silent Bob will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Bob does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Po looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bob is fending him off so far but Po persists. Nope, Bob circles away and we're back to standing.

and Po decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bob's guard.
Po stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bob swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Po is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Po has gone for a leg lock! Bob slips out almost immediately though and dives into Po's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bob sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Po's guard.

Bob is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Po sees it coming and defends easily.

Bob is trying to control. Po wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Po makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Po.

Bob has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Po to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Bob is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Po pulls down on the head and he's put Bob to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:37 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Shen Po!
During a confident post fight interview, Shen Po thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
