PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hank McCoy (ranked 1256 p4p, 1478 weight class) and Keywon Reeves (ranked 199 p4p, 221 weight class). McCoy comes to the cage accompanied by Monster. Reeves has chosen Ace Hood - We Ball as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hank McCoy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Keywon Reeves!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Bruno Lombardi and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Decent striking displayed by Reeves there.
Reeves has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
McCoy blocks a head kick by Reeves.
McCoy is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Reeves.
It seemed like Reeves was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Reeves throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
McCoy swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Reeves counters with a lovely straight right hand!

It looks like Hank McCoy has been cut.
A slow jab from McCoy misses its intended target.
Hank McCoy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A swing and a miss from Reeves.
Reeves throws a head kick but McCoy moves out of range.
McCoy moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Reeves misses the shot to the body.
A head kick misses from McCoy.
McCoy throws a head kick but Reeves moves out of range.
Reeves swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Reeves on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by McCoy. McCoy obviously looking to wear him down.
An inside leg kick from Reeves misses.

McCoy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McCoy is trying to control the action in half guard but Reeves is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reeves regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from McCoy.
Reeves wants to sweep here but McCoy controlling him for the moment.
McCoy throws a strike but Reeves rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reeves engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Reeves stopping the sweep attempt from McCoy.
McCoy is working hard here to advance position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

McCoy looking for a guillotine here but Reeves defends easily.

McCoy is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Reeves is aware though and is defending well.

McCoy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reeves can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
McCoy tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Reeves slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

McCoy looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

McCoy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Reeves gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

McCoy is looking for a triangle but Reeves pushes his legs off easily.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

McCoy working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Reeves doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Reeves manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Reeves moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
McCoy pulls out of a head kick attempt.
And Reeves responds with a good body kick, but McCoy manages to step out the way in time.

Reeves feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends McCoy sprawling to the canvas! McCoy rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Reeves finish him?!

McCoy is rocked!
McCoy is holding his hands too far apart here. Reeves throws a hard, straight punch right down the pipe and BOOM! McCoy is out! That punch landed square on the jaw - what a shot!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Keywon Reeves!
Our winner, Keywon Reeves, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
